There's a book that's been mentioned in the past that talks about how emotions and memories are stored in our muscles, and that rolfing can also release these stored emotions. I forget the title. I looked in the Massage archive, and saw the reference to "Bodies, Health & Consciousness" by Rosie Speigel, but after reading a description of the book, I don't think that's it.
Thanks.

Hi Roy,
I had my library borrow Rosie Spiegel's book for me last year and I didn't find it all that helpful. It was mostly a picture book with instructions on different yoga positions and how they complemented Rolfing. I was getting Rolfing at the time, but I couldn't do many of the yoga positions anyway.
A book I'm finding helpful now is "Bodymind" by Ken Dychtwald. I don't know if it's one of Walt's suggested book titles, but it's been interesting reading for me. It touches on the chakras, iridology, how personalities/emotions/hangups are expressed in the physical body, body splits, and lots of other fascinating stuff. He divides the body up into sections. I read about myself a lot :) It includes a lot of case studies (groups of patients helped by Rolfing, psychotherapy, and other modalities) and the author's personal experience. There are extensive chapter notes, including references, and a bibliography.
Don't know what the print status is...I found it in a local bookstore that is going out of business. 1986. Tarcher, St. Martin's Press.
Hope this helps.

Thanks Nutmeg.
I checked out the book on amazon, and read a few passages. Looks interesting. And I can get it for around $5 used.

Yeah, Roy.
That is one of them I know of. The other one is Roger Golten's "The Owner's Guide to the Body" (Hellerwork).
Let us know what you learn.

Hi Roy,
I've been trying to think of the best book that explains that. My recommendation would be "Somatics" by Thomas Hanna. He clearly describes two common ways it happens and includes exercises for trying to reverse it.
I also like the work of Alexander Lowen. He ties together mind and body well but I'm not sure how easy they are for everybody to read. You can get them through Interlibrary Loan and see if you like them.
Best wishes,
Happygal

Thanks, Nutmeg.
I was aware of Ken's work but had not read his book. Perhaps one needs to already understand Rolfing to appreciate Rosie's book. I will begin to recommend Ken's book for basic understanding of bodymind interconnectedness.
Namaste`

Hi,
Also the book, "Hellerwork" by Joseph Heller gives an easy to read explanation of the body-mind connection.
Best wishes,

Thanks, Happygal.
Roger Golten's book is his interpretation of Hellerwork. Roger studied Hellerwork under Heller.
Thanks for the additional reference!
