Help me please!

Posted by Dianne on May 31, 2003 at 10:08:25:

I am having some concerning symtoms. After I do little physical labor-I get muscle pain and knots in muscles.Sometimes I lose my balance. Noises make me jump out of my chair(but playing a loud radio don't) When I am really tired-and start to fall asleep I jerk and wake myself up. I also feel internal tremors in back/neck/shoulder area and only see it in hands.
I have seen my md about this(she said it was anziety) Meds did not work. After a chiro adjustment these problems go away till I do things like dusting, vacummming and it starts up again. I told my chiro about this he said to drink more water to help my muscles. I drink 8 glasses a day.He said that should be enough. But still have this problem. I have tried magnesium, cause it sounded like this may be the problem it does not work. During physical therapy I have to have cause of tight muscles/I was told I am not getting enough blood flow to muscles and the machine they used on me helped alot. Told me to drink more water and do SR. Which I do.This may sound stupid but after therapy I feel like my body is filled out more and when the problems come back I feel like I have lost weight. Is there a defiency or something causing this? I do take supplements and have not figured it out. I also get numb/when cross legs /I am on my feet alot my legs from knee up turn red. I also get a tingling feeling thru body. A few years ago I was diagnosed with polyneuropathy and this was not explained to me at all and the doc just wanted me to take antidepressants and my b levels were elevated and no toxics were found.Does someone know what this is?

Hi Diane,

Dysautonomia perhaps. That is what I have and some of the symptoms are similar.

I'm doing much better now since I started following the advice on the BB about 1-1/2 years ago. Really, much, much better.

You will have to do some reading and study to understand how to best help yourself. On this website, read the article "How to be Healthy" and "Skilled Relaxation." Also read the archives about Dysautonomia and see if it fits. Since you're saying you're already doing SR, how's your practice going?

The thing that helped my muscles a lot was and still is a daily stretching program. I started doing 15 - 20 minutes a day of stretching in the morning. I could only do a few stretches at the beginning, but now I do almost my whole body in that amount of time. I add new stretches and sometimes do massage in places that are tight. By now my whole body is in great shape -- no tight muscles or restrictions, and very flexible. As long as I do this, I hardly ever get muscle spasms, except for my left biceps brachii and I'll figure that one out soon. The SR enhanced the stretching practice enormously. Well, they work together.

Generally increasing my health through doing regular SR and the PWFD have increased my tolerance to handle noises. And the shaking and tremors have gone away from doing everything.

Gentle walking stimulates blood flow to all the muscles, which is good. Also I find that rebounding is helpful for loosening things up and somehow I feel it tonifies the nervous system in some way.

All of this stuff is good for the nervous system.

The other thing that recently helped me a lot is taking megadoses of Vitamin B3 and other B vitamins. It felt to me like they restored some function in my NS. Magnesium has never worked for me, either.

It has taken a lot of work and effort on my part -- at least 2 - 3 hours a day for over a year restoring function to all parts of my body and nervous system. But it has been well worth it and I never see any practitioners (no cost), except for a massage therapist. I get a massage about every three weeks.

Best wishes,
Happygal (Certified Massage Therapist)

Hi. Hap is right...also, it could be plain old stress, and moreso, your responses to stress. Stress not only tightens muscles ---but think about the indirect effects of tight muscles (locked toxins, contracted muscle around nerves and so on)...plus, 8 glasses is the MINIMUM to drink. More is better. Lemon water helps purify also, so a few glasses with fresh lemon in it should help...also, more vitamin E... what is your diet like?
Stretching is great...you should do it at least twice a day..get the book, "Learn Hatha in 24 Hours" - it's an excellent book that will also get you in an easy to follow program - or take a few yoga classes. The 2x per day only needs to be about 15 minutes..it will feel SO good. Taking a class is what a lot of people enjoy also, with a give and take of conversation before/after class.
I'm really against meds. When I had a car accident, the MD office wanted to put me on pain killers (for a stiff neck?) and then antidepressants, (because I said, "oh I'm so depressed, I can't work out for a few weeks")...meds will almost always require you to take either more meds to control symptoms from original meds or, mask symptoms, thus you'll never get to the ROOT. I've changed a lot of my life since this board...and honestly, it sounds like you need to begin to do the same! It does pay off - in health, balance and peace...really! Remember - Stress is the root of almost 50% (or more) of many illnesses...or, indirectly related to even more!
Look into ANANDA YOGA, at the ANANDA center - they do RAJA yoga. I will be a Yoga studio who certify's in this style as well...it is by far, for me, the most amazing style which really incorporates Diet, Meditation, Lifestyle - not just "asanas/poses" and some deep yogic breathing - it's far beyond it... and helpful for beginners and advanced students.

Hi, Dianne.

Classical severe total body bracing. Listen to Happygal and Michele.

How long have you been doing certified effective SR twice a day? Rolfing/Hellerwork would do a lot for you. Alexander Technique would go far towards avoiding this happening to you in the future.

Walt
