I've been to more doctors than I can count at this point! I'm writing to see if Dr. Stoll or anyone else has any ideas about what's going on with me.
The things that I do know for sure are that I have sleep apnea (I use a CPAP every night) and I've been taking supplements for low iron (although the doc says that it has improved). I am a 32 year old female, mother of 2, work outside the home approximately 30 hours per week, nonsmoker, nondrinker.
My symptoms are:
(1) pain in the chest (right side) from the sternum through the ribs and into my back. This symptom also causes a problem with my breathing from time to time. I can breathe, but it is very difficult to get a good deep breath. This symptom always becomes worse the week before my period, and continues until my period is finished.
(2) extreme fatigue (most days I feel like I'm not going to make it - I have to lay my head down on my desk at work during lunch hour to take a little break)
(3) headaches (not constant, but when they hit, they are agony.) Doc called them tension headaches.
(4) I have an occasional problem with dizziness. Well, not like the room is spinning, but my head just doesn't feel quite right. And sometimes my eyes bother me (the lights seem too bright).
(5) general aches and pains everywhere. Something always hurts. If it's not a headache, my back hurts. If it's not my back, then my neck, etc. It's very migratory.
I'm quite frustrated with the doctors I've been to. I've had blood tests, all of which seem to come back just fine. They just scratch their heads and say "we're not sure what's wrong." Meanwhile, I still feel lousy. I've done some research on fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue, and I think that may be a possibility of what's wrong, but I'm not the doctor.
Thanks so much for taking the time to read my post. Any advice you can give would be much appreciated.

Melanie, Dr. Stoll has lots of answers if you begin reading the Articles on Health and Symptoms and Disease (links at top of BB). I could have told the same story along with the sad medical ending. Conventional doctors have no clue in this area except to try various drugs. I'm not saying you can't go that route but if you can get to some of the causes and make lifestyle changes it's a healthier way to go. We live in a chemical world and eat chemical food. This puts our bodies under unnatural stresses and begins the autoimmune processes. I'm speaking from personal experience, not as an expert. Put fibromyalgia in the search box above and you will read your story over and over again. Wishing you well.

Melanie - Your symptoms are those of 1) a toxic bowel, which is well known to cause severe headaches and if you are experiencing diarrhea, it's simply a more serious form of constipation and 2) a congested and toxic Liver and Gallbladder problem. You need to start taking an herbal colon cleansing product like Corrective-A, as well as start performing what's called Liver Flushes. You should be able to find info on both of these subjects in the BB Archives! * S.H.A.P.E. *

Why don't you get a CBC/Chem profile done? Test is cheap. Also might want to think about getting your hormones check since you seem to get worse around your period. Hope you have good insurance. You can also check for anti bodies to food, enzymes, etc. I'd keep testing and testing. Something will hopefully come up. What about blood sugar problems? What tests have you run so far?

Hi Melanie,
Bracing, bracing, bracing! Read the glossary entry for bracing and you will understand what's going on.
Then, to learn about what to do about it, read the glossary entries for "skilled relaxation" and the "Relaxation response."
It's overcomeable -- I've done it! It will take some determination on your part, though.
Oh yes, and daily stretching helped a lot, too. Make sure you're taking plenty of B vitamins (it made a big difference for me).
Best wishes,
Happygal (Certified Massage Therapist)

Hi, Melanie.
Listen to Happygal, Rachel and Sally. ANY half-way competent physician knows EXACTLY what you have: generalized and chronic BRACING.
See the bracing archives for ALL of your symptoms and options for resolution.
Of course, in addition to ALL of your symptoms, bracing is the basic cause of fibromyalgia as well.
Let us know what you learn. If you need any more convincing, get the series of 6 total body massages suggested in the bracing archives and let us know how you feel.
Stories like this makes me ashamed of my profession!

Hi Melanie,
It has occurred to me to ask if you CPAP has been set to the correct level. My partner has sleep apnea too and wears a CPAP. Extreme fatigue, headaches (particularly in the mornings) and dizziness are all symptoms of de-saturation due to low levels of oxygen during the night (as you most probably already know). Just a thought.

Thanks to all who answered my post. I appreciate the suggestions. I will be doing some reading on bracing and SR!!!
To answer a few questions I received, I think I've had all the blood tests done (CBC, thyroid, glucose tolerance, blah blah blah). I recently spent time in the sleep lab too, making sure my CPAP pressure is correct (it is).
Thanks again to all those who answered! I will let you know how I do with my SR.
