For about 10 months now, I have something not quite right with my breathing. I can breathe normally for several breaths, and then "all of sudden", I inhale air real quick. And when this happens, it is not a "smooth" inhalation of air, but it jerks or shakes. Then I breathe normally again for a very short time, and it does it again. I have had my heart and lungs checked and the doctors said that there is no problem there. I have had 2 chest x-rays and some blood work with nothing showing there. It is scary and annoying for my breathing to do this many many times a day. Anyone ever heard of such a thing????

When you breathe air in suddenly and quickly, are you doing this consciously or without thinking?
This happens to me, but I know I do it consciously, because i have dysarrythmia. What happens is it feels like my heart has skipped a beat. I think in fact there is an extra beat and then a pause. This causes me some anxiety and I suddenly take a deep breath. Magnesium helps this a lot.

Maz

There is something within my body that is making me suck in air all of a sudden. I do not make myself do it. And it's only for one breath and only when I inhale and then I go back to breathing normal for several breaths. Plus the fact, I don't know why it would jerk or shake while inhaling.

You might find this website helpful - he seems to know a lot about breathing:

Hi, Jacklyn.
This is typically caused by chronic bracing of the diaphragm.
Listen to Sue & Maz.
Long term SR will resolve this (see the home page and the archives). The other options for total body bracing (archives again) will get rid of it sooner, albeit temporarily, and help prevent it's recurrence.
Let us know what you learn and how you do.
