Vulvodynia

Posted by Suz on September 08, 2003 at 12:17:57:

Dr Stoll,

Just wondering if you have heard of the condition Vulvodynia. I have had it for 7 years now and have tried everything to get better, even surgery the doctors talked me into. It is constant pain and inflammation in the vulvar area of the vagina. I cannot have intercoarse or use tampons or wear jeans. There is no infection. I know a lot of women have IC with vulvodynia so does that mean that vulvodynia is from the same cause? Any ideas are appreciated. I also have Fibro, CFS, Dysautonomia.

Hi Suz,
Until you hear from Dr. Stoll, I can try and help a little. I think that all of your conditions share something of a common root cause in that I would guess you brace your muscles (that is, constantly tense them). I have had IC in the past, but thanks to Dr. Stoll's insight into this condition, I have very little of it anymore.

Until the Dr. responds, I would read the archives on IC (includes vulvodynia information), muscle bracing, CFS, Fibro, Dysautomia, and finally skilled relaxation. I think you'll see a common thread throughout all.

All my best to you. You're in the right place to resolve these conditions!

Suz, there IS hope, and you can get better. I have posted my recovery below. It's also in Walt's archives. I hope it helps you!

Hi, Suz.

Yes, all of your conditions are directly related to bracing. Vulvodynia is exactly the same as IC except that the vulva is affected more than the bladder.

Let us know what you learn and how you do.
