muscle pain & fatigue

Hi Dr Stoll- I have visited & searched this site so many times and it has taught me alot but I feel I am not making progress. Since having my 1st child 51/2 years ago, my health went downhill with a myriad of vague problems and fatigue. visited my GP many times, no help. I have visited acupunture who said 'nothing serious' you are just not getting enough oxygen to your brain'. doc said leg lengths were different, causing stress, osteopath said leg lengths were the same but pelvis out of balance. chiropractor said apart from curve in spine, everything OK. I have alot of pain between my shoulders and this causes fatiguefogginess, headaches & irritability& heart paps that I can feel in my back. It feels as if the pain isn't on the surface but deep inside.your site motivated me to give up smoking after 25 yrs and initially I felt alot better, probably getting more oxygen but that seemed short term. because I had given up smoking this motivated me to get exercising again. I had always been a runner but not since my 2nd child 15 months ago. I started again and would always feel worse especially if I go early morning, so I cut it back to a fast walk for an hour. This still brings on the symptoms and is a real mystery to me. If I go at nite it brings on symptoms but not as bad as the morning. I get home and I am cold, frequent urination, sore muscles in my shoulders, headache and irritable for the day. it just doesn't make any sense to me and just so frustrates me because giving up smoking was such a huge thing for me and I felt like I was really going to achieve something with my exercise and health and now I don't know what to do. I really want to have good health and am practicing everything, including yoga. I haven't started SR yet as I can't seem to find where to fit it in. I have a full time business and 2 small children and I realise that is part of the problem but that is where my life is at at the moment.should I commence regular massages?? I get so confused and down about it. I really don't understand the exercise connection(maybe it is a body alignment pelvis thing that pregnancies made worse.) I always feel worse when I wake in the morning, if I do no exercise sometimes I start to come right during the day. I feel that the wise chinese acupuncture man was right about the oxygen because that is what it feels likebut why? is it because my muscles are so tight? my diet is and has always been very healthy. I have been reading a book on correct breathing which I have also been practicing. I am aware that I tense and breathe very shallow. I really just want to get on with my life and enjoy my children instead of being so irritable. I don't know if irritability is part of the symptoms or because of the symptoms. I have tried to buy the book relaxation & stress reduction workbook but amazon do not ship internationally.please, please any advice for me Doctor. I would so love to get up in the morning and feel great.
sorry for the waffle.many thanks in advance, bubs

You mentioned that you are trying to order the SR work book, but do you practice SR now? You could order a CD off the net to help you do relaxation meditation.

Hi Bubs,

First congratulations at quitting smoking (!!) and starting exercise. That's wonderful and commendable!

It sounds to me like you are tense and overworked. You need to find ways to take some time for yourself to relax. Everybody knows that exercise is part of health, but somehow nobody has caught on yet that relaxation is part of health, too. Because you do not relax, you are tense! Does that make sense?

If I were you, I'd start by going to get one massage a week for three weeks, and see how it makes you feel. If it seems wonderful, keep doing them on a regular basis - every other week or every three weeks or so would be enough for you to keep making progress with those tight muscles.

Also begin to do SR -- you MUST find the time. One of my clients said one of the best benefits of doing SR was she noticed that she was less irritable with her daughter. So I know this will help you, too.

Best wishes,
Happygal (Certified Massage Therapist)

Hi, Bubs.

You are trapped in chronic and severe total body bracing.

It still is surprising to me how the very thing one needs to do is almost always the last thing they think of doing.

Listen to Happygal and Barb.

My advice is that you really need to KNOW that bracing is causing everything. The only way you can really know that (in your heart) is to personally experience it. If you look at the bracing archives you will begin to see your options but for now; 3, deep, total body, therapeutic massages a week for 2 weeks handrunning, will eliminate most of your symptoms for about a month. If that does not convince you ...?

Once you are convinced, in you heart, you will find the time to do SR seriously. You can do a series of Rolfing or Hellerwork and get rid of the symptoms for about a year---plenty long for your SR to take up the slack.

Also consider Alexander Technique or Feldenkrais to extend any massage benefits and to prevent recurrence of any of this. See the glossary and archives for all of these strange terms.

Let us know how you do.

Walt

You could try energized water (www.energizedwater.info), it worked for me.
