I have been working with some throat ache problems and have noticed something interesting lately since the throat problems started.
Often, when I lay my head down with my ear on the pillow I hear my ears making a fluttering sound...you know how you can make that noise with your ears?...but it's a little different sound but it often does it now when I don't even try to do it.
So, I thought to myself "Is this due to bracing?" Sure enough, I now concentrate on letting my neck and throat muscles relax when I lay down and it quits everytime and I go right to sleep!
Interesting how we brace and don't even know it...i remember my dentist years ago telling me it appears I grind and/or clinch my teeth at night...No wonder I have such neck muscular pains!

Phil, I'm glad you wrote that. So many people ask Walt about ear and throat difficulties and resist thinking it's muscular. I hope you'll answer some of those posters with your experience.

Nice Observation!
You might share the process you go through when you notice the tension, it will help some folks i'm sure; Are you saying you just get into a knowing that muscles are relaxing;
I know when i've caught myself doing that, what has helped me is actually to sit up, and do some introspection and clear any thought patterns that caused tension through out that day; I can feel the release and relaxation happens;
A shower can even help at night some times or just observation, or awareness is all i need to say o.k. relax and it will happen; [can you do this every time?]Curious;
