Posted by a on June 05, 2002 at 14:29:20:

Hi I have pain under my left breast on the side. I thought it might be a pulled muscle or something but now I dont know. It happen last saturday I went to lift my arm and a sharp pain shot through and now and then I get that feeling when I lift my arm a certain way. should I be concerned because I was diagnosed with fibrocystic breast and I am always concerned about breast cancer. And I dont want to call the doctor yet because I was soooo worried last time after all my test etc. which was in March, so any input on this would really help.

Hi,

My orginal tumor was about 4 cm., which represents many years of growth. I had no pain. I guess that's why cancer is called a "silent" killer.

I only noticed it when I was in a boat and was bent forward for some time. I could not find any lump, only a hardening. And I had to lay side-ways with m arm up, to even feel it.

But, a physical sign is when you can see a puckering in the skin. You have to stand in front of a mirror and hold your arm up, or at least I did.

The skin seemed to be glued down in the area of the tumor, while the rest of the breast tissue moved freely.

Due to breast reconstruction, the cancer was seeded in my chest muscle, so I had another growth. That was very easily to see, because it swelled out and I had horrible pain.

If you have a strained muscle, you should find relief in a few days. Please don't worry, because that adds stress and can make you sick.

Have you read the Breast Cancer Prevention Diet by Dr. Bob Arnot? If not, you should get a copy. Also, you might think about what you are putting in your body -- caffeine, birth-control pills, etc.

The doctors could never find my tumor during a breast exam. They did find a cyst with ultrasound. The ultrasound was good. It was non-invasive and did not hurt, but gave a good picture of what was inside.

Also, I have heard good things about thermography, even though I have never had a thermogram.

If you go to a doctor, you can expect to be put through some unpleasant experiences. I still have to deal with post-traumatic stress from everything that was done to me.

They will want to do a breast exam, then there's the mammograms that they will push you into.

After you get into their machinery, you can be ground into hamburger -- like me.

This is what I would do: seek cancer prevention, wait a few days to see if I felt better, consider non-invasive tests like ultrasound and thermograms, and avoid getting caught in the cancer industry's machinery.

I hope this helps,
Pam

Dear a.

Listen to Pam.

It sounds like you have been bracing and have pulled an intercostal muscle.

Why do you not go to the archives and get rid of your fibrocystic condition?

Walt

Hi a. I would like to add that whatever happens "research." God gave you a brain; use it. Make informed decisions so in the end you can say you were on top of things and can live with your decisions. It's a real pain in the _ _ _ when we have to take responsibility and start researching since we wish the medical community would do their job so that we can concentrate on our own jobs. We are fortunate to have devoted people like Pam who have taken negative experiences and use them to help others. Wisdom comes from experience. It isn't easy taking charge of your life because the scientific community and well-meaning friends can look at you with an academy award winning look of horror on their face. . .when they hear you are stepping back and giving yourself time to explore all of your options, they slowly break out into a sweat; they swallow hard; you feel like you are a freshly detinated grenade standing before them. . .you feel isolated and alone and guess what!...that is good. . .because at the same time you feel POWER. You will make new friends; true friends; develop clear eyesite and inner strength. You will weight YOUR options and decide what YOU can live with (or without).

I understand that reaction. I am getting a lot of those incredulous reactions myself. After all, how could I possibly ever know what is good for me or what is wrong better than a doctor?
