I recently just got a mammogram and a ultra sound done to confirm I had multiple cyst . Which I always get, My doctor wants to asparate one of my cyst. Now the ultra sound said all simple cyst .. But my doctor still wants to drain this one which is not giveing me any pain what so ever and it fill's up and goes down alot. Now she decided to do this before she found out the results of the ultra sound and mammogram. Now the tech told me I really dont have to have this done if it is a simple cyst? My old doctor( which is retired) told me he never does them only if they are bothering the patient. My question is do I have to get this done because I really dont want it done. I have multiple cyst but why this one... Any body out there had this experiance? Thanks again ...

Is there something about this cyst (location) or type, that would make if different in ANY way?
My girlfriend did have a cyst drained - but it was under the nipple and giving a very obvious lump....
I've never had them drained.

Michele, the cyst is right above the nipple and you cant tell its there from just looking.... Im guess Im being a big baby about the needle going in because she said it doesnt hurt until she gets down further. I also had this cyst since last year ,but like I said it goes up and down quite a bit ... last summer \she felt it and it was huge then and now its so much smaller and she didnt say anything about it then... I dont know I think I might not get it done...

My Wife went through that painful experience, which accomplished nothing. I'd suggest that you start taking 400 to 800 units of Carlson's Brand best form of Vitamin-E which is called "E-Gems Elite Natural Vitamin-E" 400 units. Start out by taking one gel cap with your breakfast for a two week period and then increase that amount to taking one gel cap with your breakfast and one more with your dinner! My wife hasn't had any more problems since she started taking the E-Gem Elite! * S.H.A.P.E. *

Hi Ann - I think that your old doctor had it right. Too bad that he retired. Since it is a benign, there is no need to do anything with if unless it is causing problems. Helene

you don't HAVE to do anything at all that any doctor suggests. It's YOUR body and YOUR choice.

Ann,
I would bet that your official diagnosis is fibrocystic disease of the breast. Why do not you just divest yourself of this condition? See the archives.
An aspiration of the cyst is a simple procedure and would certify the diagnosis which, up to now, has been made by indirect means.
Let us know what you learn.

In addition to following advice in the archives, I discovered that gentle rebounding helped me to completely eliminate cysts in my breast that went up and down in size (usually with hormonal cycles). Give a chance at eliminating them to prove that this procedure is unnecessary. If anything changes for the worse you can always reconsider.

From what I have been reading, it seems that fibrocystic disease is so common in women that they have dropped the "disease" label and it is now called fibrocystic change. I read that it occurs in something like 50% of all women. And guess what, my recent benign breast biopsy report reported fibrocystic change and I am 58 with no cysts visible on ultrasound or palpable. IMO these cysts are probably normal and be what gives the breasts their lumpy feeling. Helene

Thanks, Helene.
Just because it has become so common does not mean that it is "normal". Just in MY 30+ years of practice it has become much more common. Just changing the name does not make it more acceptible except in the minds of the docs and their patients.
Since it is so reliably reversible why not try it?

Just wanted to tell you that my experience with needle aspiration was not painful. It may vary from person to person and depend on the skill of the technician, though. I was breastfeeding a baby at the time, so I had it done with no local. I barely felt it.

It's good to know that fibrocystic change is reversible. I will probably try the vitamin E. I do not have any discomfort from it and would not have known I had this problem save for the biopsy. I know that I am producing too much estrogen which may be a cause of this. Helene

It was done in the office and she claims it did not hurt (and she is the BIGGEST WIMP! she won't even get gyn checkups)
But if it is smaller, I would not really worry.
I would ask WHY they want to aspirate it...if there is any benefit to it... because if you really don't NEED to, and it doesn't bother you - let your body deal with it. HOWEVER, I would get it done just to have it tested (if they even do that?).... because to me, it's better out than in...
I'm having my breast Ultrasound tomorrow - I may be singing a different tune if they want to do the same to me, right? LOL

Thanks, Helene.
I have yet to see vitamin E, alone, reverse this condition.
