Calcium hydroxyapatite composition

Posted by Antonio on December 18, 2002 at 20:26:33:

Dear Dr. Stoll or others:

I looked into the composition of the calcium hydroxyapatite available at a health store nearby and found in the label that 4 tablets had:

Calcium(Hydroxyapatite, Carbonate, Citrate, Calcium Malate Glycinate) - 1200mg
Magnesium (Glycinate, Amino Acid Chelate, Gluconate) 400 Mg.

Curious about the breakdown I called the company and was told that the calcium came from:

Hydroxyapatite - 51%
Carbonate - 49%
Malate Glyconate - 0.0001%
Citrate - 0.0001%

So my questions are:

1. Is the above composition typical of the calcium hydroxyapatite or are there other brands of hydroxyapatite which have higher levels of calcium as hydroxyapatite.

2. Has the hydroxyapatite been proven to build bone? I found a posting in your archives of a lady that claimed a 5 % bone density improvement with the hydroxyapatite. Is this typical?

3. Is the hydroxyapatite safe to be clear of lead and other heavy metals?

Thank you, in advance, for your help.

Antonio

Dr. Stoll recently answered a post about contamination. The Metagenics Brand of hydroxyapatite comes from New Zealand which Walt said was the least polluted. Last year there was a lot of discussion about cal-apatite, I think you could try that in the search engine.

I used a hydroxyapatite supplement with the following composition:
Calcium (micro-crystal hydroxyapatite)1200 mg.
Magnesium (amino acid chelate) 600 mg.
Zinc citrate 10 mg.
Manganese citrate 5 mg.
Silica 25 mg.
Boron (as Glycerol Borate) 3 mg.
Chondroitin sulfate complex 400 mg.
GTF Chromium 50 mcg.
Vitamin C 200 mg.
Vitamin D-3 400 IU
Ipriflavone (Soya) 100 mg.

This would be in 6 capsules taken 3x per day. The calcium comes from bones of New Zealand stock. The company is New Spirit Naturals--see on the web via Google.com.
See my post from yesterday for more of my protocol.
In 6 months I gained 6.6% bone mass in my spine, and 9%in my hip. Those are great numbers. Check it out.
Good luck.

To clarify--that is in 6 capsules total per day, in three divided doses, not 6 capsules three times a day!

Hi, Antonio.

Only 51% of this producrt is the "right stuff". They are mixing in the other cheaper stuff to dilute the effects and save them money.

Walt

Thank you Dr. Stoll & tuff bonz

I was afraid that the 49% as carbonate was put to make the product cheaper and more profitable. Will look for a calcium product with 100% from hydroxyapatite in other stores.

Thank you both.
