is there such a thing as water hardened on the muscle

When I was 19 years old I had a bad fall and landed on my left leg, and after the large bruised up knot started to get better...the knot was smaller but never diappeared completely, and the doctors told my mother if it ever bothered me that they would take it out. Well, I am 39 years old now and still it only bothers me when I forget and role over on the left side of my body to sleep, and then quickly will role back on the other side to fall asleep, but my question is, What caused this knot in the first place ? If my memory serves me right, I think the doctors told me it was water hardend on the muscle ??? Is there such a thing as that ?

Hi Toni,

The only thing I can think of that sounds remotely like that is the fluid in between the connective tissues can congeal and cause the tissues to stick together. Places like that often feel like knots. Have you ever had a massage therapist work on it to see if the knot will go away?

Best wishes,
Happygal (Certified Massage Therapist)

Hi, Toni.

NOT "water hardened on a muscle"!

If Happygal's suggestion does not resolve it it means that you had a hematoma in the muscle of the area and over the years it has calcified--a not uncommon occurance with this kind of injury. A xray would show the calcium after all this time and then the massages would not work it out although it might help with the symptoms.

Recommending massages way back then would easily have resolved it but MDs are loath to recommend anyone else to do anything that might be construed as competition to their monopoly. Of course they seem to think learning massage themselves is beneath them.

Let us know what you learn and how you do.

Walt
