Spurs & Calcium Deposits in heel.

Hi, I have spurs in my heel & the Dr. is suggesting a painful injection of Steriods - why? Also, can putting feet into a 'relaxing/vibrating' bath help dispose of the calcium deposits. I don't particularly want to go to the hospital. Can you please enlighten me on these points, I've read your previous advise but cannot find one that fits my query. Thank you.

Hi Patricia,

You should listen to Jayne..
and read up on Plantar Fasciitis.

You are not a racehorse or a football player, who needs a steroid shot to get through the next race or game.
The problem is that a steroid will not correct the cause of the problem... BONE loss and weakening of the attachment of your ligament to the bone of the foot.
It will actually weaken the connection and delay healing while it works its' questionable miracle.
If you are careful and do the right things for the next couple of months, this will gradually improve and you will wonder when it went away..
Then you will quickly praise the last thing that you tried for solving the problem... (WRONG)

A Night Splint that applies gentle pressure to the bottom of the foot near the heel, good supporting shoes, avoidance of what injured you in the first place will help. When you can wake up in the morning without
feeling a sharp pain when you stand up, you are beating this.

Changing heel heights, working in a crouched position or balancing on the balls of your feet, kicking at things with the bottom of your foot, excessive running
osteoporosis, flip-flop sandals all can contribute to
your present condition.

Have you ever had a Dexa Bone Scan to check for Osteoporosis?

Here is an article on PF that you should consider.

Hi Patricia,

I would start by loosening up all the muscles of the foot and calf by stretching and deep massage.

Best wishes,

Patricia,

I would have to see the xrays of the calcaneous to be able to answer this with an opinion. I think I have archived specific information about heel spurs in the calcium deposit archives.

Listen to Happygal, Ron & Jayne in the meantime.

Walt
