Hello Dr. Stoll. I'm 22 and I have what I am told is a calcium deposit on the bottom of my finger facing my palm. In a few weeks I go for a consult to get it surgically removed. Is there any other method of getting rid of it? It does need to be removed because I can't fully use my hand since it's on the inside and is constantly agrivated. I am scared of surgery because military doctors tend to do a "hack job".
Thanks, Destiny

Hi, Destiny.
IF this truly IS a calcium deposit, your surgeon surely must know about the new technology for eliminating calcium deposits without surgery.
The same principle for shattering kidney stones without surgery (ultrasonics) has now been applied to ALL calcium deposits for the enlightened surgeon. Just as this technology has totally revolutionized kidney stone surgery so is it going to do the same for calcium deposits anywhere.
I am confused about why you have mentioned a "bone polyp".
Let us know how you do and what you learn.

Well, I finally got my x-ray, and nothing showed up. Now the doctor is saying that it is a ganglion cyst. To take it out I’m told they aspirate it first and then surgically remove it if necessary. It may take months for me to even get the first treatment though. Anything I can do to relieve the pain for now? (It is constantly being agitated) Hot compresses maybe? Thanks.

Hi, Destiny.
A MUCH more likely diagnosis. I am surprised that the doc would tell you it was a calcium deposit when that would be SO rare in that area as to be a novelty.
I know of no relief for you, other than pain pills, until you have it treated. The real challenge will be if it recurrs. THEN, you will have to deal with the causes (Not a bad idea anyhow.)
