Dear Vicki,

It depends on why you are taking the calcium. If it is to prevent osteoporosis, it is mainly going to help the orange juice producers.

The only thing yet known, that will prervent (and reverse) osteoporosis is properly produced hydroxyapatite. I have discussed this on this bb many times. Bone is a LOT more than calcium. There are more than 20 known cross links (other minerals) needed to hold the calcium in the normal bony mineral lattice (hydroxyapatite). Besides, without the appropriate enzymes that cause these minerals to bind together, STILL bone will not form from calcium suplementation. Properly produced hydroxyapatite HAS all of these enzymes present in the proper proportions with the trace minerals.

I am sure you have been hearing about how important magnesium, zinc, boron, etc., are for preventing osteoporosis (only about 20 more to "discover"). BIG SIGH!

Walt

Walt,
I have been taking prednisone for several years which I understand may, if not usually, causes osteoporisis. I've not been tested for osteoporisis though. Should I be taking hydroxyapatite for bone replacement? Is hydroxyapatite also a suitable source for daily calcium needed by the body? If so, where can you purchase it? I'm concerned as I have a brother who was on prednisone for many years and now suffers from osteoporosis.

Dear Mark,

WHY are you taking prednisone?

The hydorxyapatite will help some but not nearl;y as much as getting off the prednisone. If I knew why you are taking it, I might be able to point you in the direction to get rid of the reason you have to take it,

Call (800) 522-6382 for the closest place for you to get the best product I know.

Dear Walt,
I have chronic, serious asthma which has required daily prednisone. I feel the primary cause is LGS. I am mostly working with diet and stress reduction to correct the asthma/LGS. Periodic fasting and light meals provides a lot of relief. I seem to have sensitivities to most foods though, even the safe ones listed in the elimination diet. I have been able reduce my daily dosage of prednisone by 1/2 but not completely eliminate it. Thanks for your counsel.

Dear Mark,

Sounds like you are at least pointed in the right direction at last.

If I had asthma to the extent you seem to have, I would be doing the following in this order of importance:

1. Skilled relaxation at least twice a day for 20 minutes (not counting any done within 2 hours of going to bed). Be sure to check out your technique with biofeedback so you don't waste any effort or time.

2. Skilled elimination/provocation testing of dietary things (see Robert McFerran notes on this BB) for more temporary relief.

3. Taking at least 2 grams of elememtal magnesium daily (in an easily absorbed form since your LGS will make it difficult to absorb---Mg Orotate, Aspartate, Glycinate & the like).

4. Taking 100 "Balanced B-Complex" daily with the magnesium. Number 3 & 4 work as cofactors to improve asthmatic symptoms and this dose cannot possibly hurt anyone. These, too, are only for temporary relief while you get rid of the causes.

5 Another way for you to speed up your symptomatic improvement would be to contact the following website for the 4-R program: www.healthcom.com

6. Learn about candida-related syndrome since with you asthma & LGS, it is almost certainly a major contributing factor (along with other parasites).

Finally, do not stop learning. There are now breakthroughs in our understanding of this relationship almost every month. Within 5 years asthma will be a choice not a problem.

Let us know how you do.

Walt

This is a more descriptive title for the "calcium" response I just made. This is to make it easier for those with similar problems to find the information.
