This is from Issue #54, LIFESTYLE FOR EXCELLENT HEALTH e-Newsletter
Dear Subscribers:
I just finished reading The Breast Cancer Prevention Book by Dr. Bob Arnot for the second time. He is the Chief Medical Correspondent for NBC News and lectures frequently in the country. The book targets estrogen as one of the major contributors of breast cancer. I can honestly say that I am more alarmed about estrogens role in breast cancer than ever before.
Some highlights from the book that you might find very interesting are as follows:
1) Breast cancer strikes 1 in 40 women in Asia and 1 in every 8 in America. Researchers at Cambridge University have concluded that diet is the most important lifestyle factor in up to 80% of breast cancer.
2) In rural Africa, women have a breast cancer risk of four per 100,000, about 90% less than American women.
3) A Western high fat, animal based diet, high in estrogen and saturated fat, is a key contributor to breast cancer. This includes meat, dairy, and Omega 6 oils.
4) Dr. John Glaspy of the prestigious UCLA Comprehensive Cancer Center found that Omega 6 oils, like safflower, sunflower, corn oils and margarine, cause tumors to grow and that Omega 3 oils cause tumors to shrink in as little as 3 months.
5) Eskimo women who consume large amounts of omega 3 oils do not get breast cancer. (Try 2 TBSP of ground flax a day added to a drink or on food).
6) Breast cancer is a “hormonally driven” tumor. Estrogen drives its development and growth. Estrogen is produced in the ovaries, adrenals, and fat cells.
7) We can block estradiol, a very strong, human estrogen, by eating more phytoestrogens, plant estrogens that are weak. Soy and flaxseed are highly recommended.
8) Pesticides and chemicals are synthetic estrogens that can mimic the biologic actions of estrogen. (Buy organic produce whenever possible)
Dr. Steven Clinton, M.D., of Harvard’s Dana Farber Cancer Center writes, “A favorable change in risk cannot be attributed to a single factor. A change in a woman’s entire dietary pattern is probably responsible for the reduced risk.
That is, a diet high in fiber, fruits, and vegetables and exercise (exercise can cut your risk 50%), and a modest number of calories.
Recycled estrogens—Here is appoint that must be made: Estrogens circulate through the bloodstream for less than a day, and then are disposed of by the body which transports them through the bloodstream through the liver and into
the bowels for excretion. When we eat too little fiber, causing slow transit time in the bowel, the estrogen can be reabsorbed into the bloodstream adding to the overabundance of the cancer–causing hormone. Fruits, vegetables, beans, and whole grains are high fiber foods. Thus, the higher the fiber the less breast cancer.
Some more suggestions:
-- Eat a high-fiber diet.
-- Try to eat 9 servings of fruits and vegetables a day.
-- Take two tablespoons of ground flaxseeds a day. Use soy
flakes and nuts.
-- Lower body fat.
-- Change fats you consume. Some repots cite that olive
oil can cut breast cancer 25 to 50%.
-- Lower insulin levels (insulin works with estrogen
promoting breast cancer) by cutting out sugar and
refined carbohydrates. White spaghetti, pizza, white
bread, rice, junk foods, sodas, etc.
-- Eat organic fruits and vegetables—nine or ten servings
a day.
-- Start a regular aerobic exercise program four to five
times a week.
-- Cut out smoking and drinking alcohol.
-- Learn how to shorten your exposure to estrogen, block
the estrogen receptor, and blunt the estrogen signal
by reading this book!!!
-- Spend time each day with God and study His plan for
your life.

Well, based on you book report, it seems to me this book should be one important reading material for those who recomment a high fat, meat-based diet for women, especially women who are already overweight. Yep, breast cancer and other reproductive system disorders are the dear price these women have to pay.
From the perspective of TCM, a diet heavy on meat, eggs, fat/oil, and dairy almost certainly causes a "damp" condition in a woman's body, and constant "damp" conditions provide the perfect environment for the growth of cysts, tumor, and cancer (not to mention a whole list of other negative effects in the bodymind). There is no quetion about that. I'm glad science is finally catching on.
(BTW, I still haven't taken the initiation to email you yet--don't see much point in doing that, since this mind2mind communication has been working real well :)

Hi, Joyce.
According to all the research, without knowing you as your doc should know you, you should be on estriol and not on synthroid.
See the HRT, aging and thyroid archives.
