Dr. Stoll, I wrote to you last summer about having a pap test and painfull biospy, I had a total hysterectomy almost 20 years ago, no cancer. The Dr. I went to said I need another pap test in 6 months, stopped going to him, went to another and she said the same thing, that would be this month and I just dont know what to do, they both said I probably had yeast, hot weather then and I do get it once in awhile. Pleas advise, thank you. Oh yes, you said I should never need a pap again.

Have you asked the doctor(s) exactly WHAT organ they are going to perform the pap test on? I'm sorry for intruding, but if you've had a total hysterectomy, how on earth can a doctor perform a pap test?

Hi, Darsie.
PAP tests have been shown to be accurate for CERVICAL cancer ONLY and recent research is even casting doubt on this accuracy.
In my opinion, physicians who insist upon continuing PAPs after hysterectomy are just using this as an excuse to do a yearly pelvic exam--which, arguably, IS worth while. It is too bad that the patient gets charged for a PAP when it is a useless test under these circumstances.
Why not just be honest and tell the woman that she needs a yearly pelvic exam????

Thank you Dr. Stoll, however, my Dr. told me that even if you had a hysteretomy years later something could pop up from the removel of the cervix, I am so confused, thanks for your reply

Thanks, Darsie.
In my opinion, your "doctor" must need the money! Even more to the point: "Liar, liar, pants on fire."
