Grade 1 breast cancer....please Info!!!

Posted by Eleni on March 26, 2003 at 08:50:19:

Hi, I've just found out that a very good friend of mine has been diagnosed with Grade 1 breast cancer. I would really appreciate from anyone, what she can do, if there are any things..natural that she can take etc. She goes in a couple of weeks for a lumpectomy (just the removal of the lump).
Thanking you in advance for any info.

I can't offer much advice - but when my girlfriend had breast cancer, I started juicing for her A LOT! I made sure she had a steady supply of fresh veg/fruit juice -
Get "The Power of Juicing" and you'll see all the antioxident and energy stuff there is in it - I really believe in this.

Do you know how to do a search? Pam has posted her breast cancer story and many, many informative options. Use the "Search by Date/Author" at top of BB and put her name in.

something similiar with one of my girlfriends who has stage 4 breast cancer at 32 years old. Stage 1 is the very early stages so your friend if I understand the stages correctly is very lucky to have caught it in time for treatment.
She should go see a homeopathic specialist to understand natural treatment options. I've noticed that the younger they are, the less they will go homepathic due to the major lifestyle change that needs to take place but your friend may benefit.
Good luck to her!

Eleni:

Tell your friend to go to the Alternative Breast Cancer group. The archives and links section has much information.

Your friend should go to a CAM or nautopathic doctor. If she continues following the allopathic doctors, she will end up in the cancer establishment's machinery. She will be "cut, burned and poisoned."

Is your friend going in for a lumpectomy? If so, warm her against having her lymph nodes dissected. There is no purpose in dissecting lymph nodes. It damages the lymph system and leads to disability. You should see how contracted my arm and shoulder is because of all the damage from mastectomy, reconstruction, lymph node dissection and radiation.

I am confined to a chair 24 hours a day. I take pain medications round the clock. I have a home health aid who takes care of me. I cannot raise or bend my arm. The therapist says my arm weighs 15 pounds from all the lymph fluid. There is no cure for lymphemdema.

I suggest that your friend go to the ABC group and begin a search there of the archives and links. I t has taken me nearly 6 years to gather all the information.

Thanks,
Pam

Eleni, e-mail me and I'll send you the breast cancer packet that my friend, Suzanne, sent me. She's been through breast cancer that she got after years and years of eating an organic diet and lots of juicing. Not that the juicing caused her cancer, it probably helped her to stave it off. But she still got cancer and finds that her earlier efforts just weren't enough.

E-mail me and I will show you photos of my breast cancer lump removed with bloodroot--takes about 10 days and it is not easy--sure beats surgery, chemo or radiation. I did only natural. I will be glad to share my knowledge with you.

Hi, Eleni.

Listen to everyon who posted. My suggestion would be to get in touch with the Cancer Control Society at (213) 663-7801 and read the Cancer book by Dr Jim Gordon. See the cancer archives and let us know what she learns.

Vince:

Dr. Stoll could probably answer that question better than I could. But, we know that hormones are in the animals that we can get those hormones from dairy products. Hormones contribute to the growth of cancer cells.

Dr. Mercola has information about dairy and cancer at his site. You just have to go to his search engine.

Dr. Stoll:

Who is the cancer control society? Do they support alternative medicine?

What about cancer treatment centers of America?

Still, this woman needs a personal physician who will be there through the whole ordeal. That's why she need a CAM or ND.

Thanks,
Pam

Regarding the timing of breast surgery this is some info that I feel is worth considering.
Based on a number of medical studies,
days 18-20 of the menstrual cycle appears to be the BEST/ideal time for surgery
days 13-17 and 21-25 also appear to be good times
days 26 and later appear mediocre (though the data are less clear)
days 1-2 and 7-12 appear to be poor times
days 3-6 appears to be the WORST time

Thanks, Pam.

With all you have been through and you do not know about the CCS???!! They are a lay organization that collects proof of effectiveness of nearly all of the alternative and complementary approaches to cancer and has the addresses and phone numbers available for each of them for those who call.

CTCA provides conventional and alternative approaches to cancer patients in an inpatient setting. In MY opinion, they do not go far enough for fear of alienating conventional physicians upon whom they depend for referrals.

More Evidence Curry Ingredient May Fight Cancer
Thu Mar 13,10:32 AM ET

By Alison McCook
NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - An ingredient in the curry spice turmeric may help suppress and destroy a blood cancer, early lab research shows--suggesting yet another health benefit from this long-heralded substance.

Turmeric is a common ingredient in Indian food and yellow mustard. Its active ingredient is curcumin, which gives turmeric its yellow color.

Adding curcumin to human cells with the blood cancer multiple myeloma, Dr. Bharat B. Aggarwal of the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston and his colleagues found, stopped the cells from replicating. And the cells that were left died.

Although the study did not test the benefits of curcumin in patients, previous research has shown the substance may fight other types of cancers, Aggarwal told Reuters Health.

Studies have also shown that curcumin, even in large quantities, does not produce any known side effects in humans, the researcher noted.

Based on this evidence, Aggarwal recommended that people with cancer should try to eat more curcumin, if possible.

"Whichever way you can take it, as much as possible," he said.

Aggarwal added, however, that further research is needed to determine how much curcumin people need to get the most benefits.

Previous laboratory research has shown that curcumin may have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, as well as treat and prevent cancer.

Studies in the lab and in animals also suggest that the compound might help heal wounds and fight Alzheimer's disease and multiple sclerosis.

Patients with multiple myeloma are in particular need of new treatments, Aggarwal and his colleagues point out in their report in the journal Blood. Once diagnosed with this blood cancer, patients typically live between two and three years.

During the current study, the researchers added curcumin to a sample of human cells with multiple myeloma, and observed how the substance influenced the progression of the cancer.

In an interview, Aggarwal explained that curcumin appears to block the activity of a "light switch" called nuclear factor kappa-B (NF-kappaB). When turned on, he said, NF-kappaB appears to then turn on many genes linked to cancer.

Examining the multiple myeloma cells before adding the curcumin, the authors found that virtually all contained activated forms of NF-kappaB.

After adding curcumin, however, NF-kappaB activity was inhibited, the multiple myeloma cells no longer replicated and the remaining cells died, Aggarwal said.

Aggarwal explained that it is somewhat difficult to study the effects of curcumin in a large number of patients because these experiments cost a lot of money. Funding for similar research is often provided by a company that stands to benefit if the tested treatment works; however, in the case of curcumin, a natural compound, no company can reap the benefits if turmeric shows itself to be an effective anti-cancer drug, he said.

However, Aggarwal said that he hopes the new findings and previous research suggesting curcumin's benefits inspire other researchers to continue investigating its properties.

If curcumin is, in fact, an effective and safe treatment for cancer, studying it further can only be a "win-win situation," Aggarwal predicted.
