My 64 yr old brother in law has been diagnosed with prostate cancer. He is having surgery on 11/14 by a "robot."

How long time does a prostate cancer patient usually have?

Helen,

See the archives (prostate and the cancer archives)! Nearly all prostate cancer (most prostate cancer patients outlive their cancer without ANY treatment) is unique among cancers. IF the cancer has metasticized it is inoperable so he has to be listed among those for whom NO treatment would be MY option. This, of course, is not only my opinion but is the opinion of a growing % of experts around the country.

If this were MY cancer I would certainly get a second opinion by a major prostate cancer center around the country before rushing into surgery as MY path to lifetime treatment--which he is deciding by his current surgical choice. Delaying his surgery until he can do this is NO risk to his "cure".

He needs to have ALL of his medical records in hand when he goes for his "second opinion".

Walt

A lot depends on the age and health of the person. My MD told me after a PSA test that the average prostate cancer person lives 5 to 15 years. Mostly because they don't make any changes in their health habits.

Cancer is easy to prevent if a whole foods diet, some exercise and stress relief are followed.

Does that sound like the 3LS :)
