tongue canker sores

I have read each and every post for the tongue canker
sores as I am suffering from a canker or lesion on the
side of my tongue. I did not find glyoxide in my drug
store, but did pick up a hydrogene peroxide mouth rinse
made by Crest that I used. Will this do the same as the
glyoxide treatment or should I continue to look for the it?
I did buy the vit. c and lysene tablets and trying not to
talk and/or eat anything that will upset the acid in my
mouth. I found some Kankaid that forms a coating over
the sore. This has made the pain more bearable.
Does salt water help at all? I rinsed with it once or
twice and I thought I was going through labor! No
joke..it hurt that much.
Thanks,
Stacy

I had severe lesions on my tongue and it was unbearable. I couldn't eat, and nothing relieved the pain. I went to the dentist and he diagnosed it as "herpes" saying that most people have the virus (same virus that causes cold sores) and that stress can cause a flare up. He prescribed Zovirax and it cleared it up. Every now and then I'll get a slight flare up. It's never gotton so bad that I need medication though. Thought maybe that info would help. Good luck!

I had about 5 - 8 of these things in my mouth (different ones) for about 7 months. The dentist thought it was lichenplanus which I did not believe so did not ask for biopsy. It was swabbed though and it wasn't herpes either. The only thing that I think started these was stress I was going thru. So work on that. Also I started using 1/2 peroxide 1/2 water mouth wash that I would mix and this seemed to be the only thing to get rid of the existing and kept away the others. I don't need to rinse it all the time now and have not had a recurrence. They are pretty self limiting in most cases.

Hi, StacY.

In MY experience the glycerine helps hold the H2O2 on the lesion so much better that it really is critical for 100% effectiveness. Of course, some people get results from just the H2O2 mouthwash.

Have you asked your pharmacist??? Personally, I would not even try to find something this small without asking for help. Remember that the q-tip maneuver WITH the glyoxide is as much a part of the cure as is the material.

Walt
