Cold sores

Posted by Cat on February 19, 1999 at 20:02:06:

For 3 weeks I have felt a cold sore coming on ... the prodome never turns into the cold sore itself.. but Im getting real tired of it. I have not felt well with a head cold, however, I'm getting better, but the tingling on my lip goes on. I know this revolves around the strength of the immune system, but is there anything I can do? I have IC (am doing the SR) and can't take many of the vitamins I'd like to, and herbs bother my IC also... Any suggestions? One other thing... what can one do to combat the dryness of
winter. This is contributing to me not feeling well. I have a humidfier going all the time and drink water, as much as I can, but Im all dried out... this I feel is contributing to me still not feeling well.

Hi, Cat.

How long have you been doing the SR at least twice a day and have you determined that your technique is actually reaching the "relaxation response"? I ask that since effective SR would also do the most to improve your immune system. It takes 6-12 months of doing SR right to get these kind of results.

Taking at least 1 gram of lysine twice a day would help and eating as little food as possible that is high in arginine would help as well (Go to the library and have the reference librarian help you find the book with charts of amino acid food content.) Eat foods high in lysine & low in arginine.

Once any acute episode is over, you could cut the lysine dose down to about 500 milligrams a day for prevention. One only needs the large dose when the lesion is threatening to break out or has actually broken out.

Walt
