I read about magnesium in the archives. I'm a little confused. I saw that mag iv needs to be done if severely depleted but not sure about po. I'm sure you've done extensive repeating regarding this topic....I started taking Mag Asporotate, mag citrate & orotate 400mg 2 days ago. What would be a td for this? My palpitations are 80 percent improved since. I can't tell you how much I appreciate all the help your archives have helped me!!!! You said in the last message about the skipped beats that they are most likely benign depending on age. I am 31. Could it be possible that the mag has helped this soon? Thank you so much

Jennifer,
My heart started to flucuate 8 or 9 years ago started taking Magnesium and within a few days mine was doing better and then approximatly around 5 days it quite altogether. I am happy to say it has been three almost four months since. I have been doing SR too of course. I cannot answer your other question sorry. I have a very hard time with the archives too. Too much I don't understand.

I believe it says in the archives that if the ORAL magnesium doesnt work, to not throw out the baby with the bathwater and to try magnesium IVs because it may mean that your body is too depleted to absorb it orally.

BarbaraN,
Do you think it is what is happening with me? My heart has responded to it but that is all I should be having more good signs like energy but I am still at the bottom of my energy stores. I get very tired very easily. I have been on it for three months now. S.H.A.P.E. told me about a liquid magnesium I have ordered it and waiting for it to come in. Thought I would try it. I appriciate everybody on the bulletin board you'll have been very nice.

I am taking 800 mg of magnesium Aspertate a day. I am thinking of going higher if I don't get it in soon.

I've never heard of using Magnesium for energy. If anything, it has the opposite effect on me as it relaxes me. If the magnesium you were using stopped the irregular heart beats then why mess with success and change magnesiums? What I find helps my energy is kelp, iodine, liver supplements like milk thistle and alpha lipoic acid, a good diet and regular exercise.

Hi, Jennifer.
The more you need magnesium, the faster it will work and with the less dose. This tells me that you are absorbing even this miniscule dose and will probably totally resolve it in time without IV magnesium.
Let us know how you do.

I had palpitations, some fluttering and a full blown panic attack about 2 months ago. The doctor suspected Mitral Valve Prolapse (Echo did not show it) and put me on Atenelol. I also started taking Magnesium (Malate and now Citrate). I am feeling great! No palpitations, No irregular beats. I think the Magnesium is helping a lot though the Beta blocker is keeping my heart rate down. I also started doing SR.
Interestingly, these symptoms started for me and my wife around the same time (she did not have panic attacks though). We moved into new house and because of the hard water, started drinking only bottled water. I recently installed a water softener too. I think since we cut out hard water which has a lot magnesium and calcium, we must have run really low on our magnesium levels. We are both taking Magnesium and feeling much better.
Any comments Dr. Stoll?

Thanks, Shrinivas.
Sounds like you are on the right track.
I would forget about the FAD diagnosis of MVP.

Thank you everyone who responded!! I didn't realize that hard water can deplete your system of mag--we have really hard well water. I'm starting to feel a little better, less palpitations and trying not to focus on it. I have a question about the MVP. I was diagnosed with it about 14 years ago. They did an ultrasound and showed it. Does it still not exist? or is it a fad when they can just hear a murmur? Thanks

I did not say that hard water depletes your system of Mg. Hard water has a lot of Mg and Ca in it. If you find hard water unpalatable and switch to bottled water or softened water, you may inadvertently end up not getting enough Mg.
If you drink naturally or artifically softened water, you may not be getting enough Mg and thus need to supplement as it happened in me and my wife's case.
Thanks

Hi, Jennifer.
MVP is fully discussed in the home page article and in the archives about that subject.
Let us know what you learn.
