We have a preemie (born 15 weeks early) with this condition. The current apparent view of the medical staff seems to information is on a need to know basis, we need to know when they need to do something to our girl. Can you please explain what this condition is and what the ongoing treatment could be, we have been told that this will be an ongoing condition. could you also could you suggest some sites we could look at for more info.
Thanks
Susan Lind

Hi, Susan.
Poor little tyke. She must have a genetic susceptibility to magnesium levels inside her cells.
Your first thing would be to find a knowledgeable physician in your area about intracellular magnesium levels and what do do about them. See the ACAM reference under chelation on this 'site. Also, look at the archives about magnesium & about cardiac dysrrhythmias. Next, you need to realize that "normal" levels mean nothing in this case. What is important is how much SHE needs. It is hard to give her too much.
Good luck! She will always need more than the rest of us to control her dysrrhythmia.
With this kind of problem there will likely be a number of other genetic susceptibilities for you to look out for. Toward that end, you need to become a student of the present, and future, breakthroughs in the Human Genome Projest.
Let us know how she does. Remember, the serum level is worthless and that is what most purely conventional cardiologists would order. The reason for doing the intracellular level, first, is for a baseline to determine HER adequate level which will be higher than "normal". Either way, she will require supplementation with the easiest absorbed kind of magnesium (magnesium glycinate).
Let us know how she does.

Hi again,
Further to your reply regarding magnesium for our "bub", would it help if the mother took magnesium - does it pass onto the baby through the mothers milk??? Obviosly, we can't do much with magnesium supplements at this stage of the game (the hospitals here are very conservative in their treatment).
thanks in advance

Susan,
You can get liquid magnesium glysinate at your healthfood store. Giving a cc about twice a day would produce results within a few days IF this is the problem. No risk, only benefits.
The amount that your bub could get from nursing, IF the mother took the doses recommended under magnesium on this 'site, might help in a few months but might not.
