PAT, chronic stress buildup?

Posted by ErinR on February 02, 2001 at 11:04:38:

Hi,

Is P.A.T. a serious disorder with long term problems? Is it caused by too much stress which in turn causes the heart to become irratible and start to have pac's and fast heart rate? Is magnesium also a factor as it is in other disrrythmias? I have been taking magnesium glycinate 400 mg 1x a day, I am 35 and pregnant and have had pac/pvcs on and off for a long time. I have been doing a type of SR, HeartMath, that a physician here has taught me. Has anyone heard of that? Anything else I can do to prevent these pvc/pac and possible PAT from occuring, especially now that I am pregnant? Sorry for all the questions, and other thoughts are greatly appreciated! Thanks for all the great previous advice given already friends!

Erin.

That is only part of the problem. Go to the archives about atrial and about cardiac dysrrhythmias.

THEN, if you still have questions, write again.

I gather from what I read low intracelluar levels of mag. are a big part as well as the stress build-up. I have not been told I have definatively have experienced an episode but on a monitor reading I had some early beats followed by feeling scared and my heart rate racing to about 142 then back down to norm within 45 min or so. Dr. says all is fine, and of course did not explain PAT to me, but I, of course, want to do my best to prevent as much as I can with any type of disease etc. Though I am not sure IV is an option while I am pregnant, I will up my mag. glycinate 400mg to at least 3 times a day and keep practicing the meditation. I know by using mag. orally is not as good as IV, can you achieve a good level this way? How long until you may see a positive improvement? Thank you for your time.

Hi, Erin.

You are there.

Since massive IM magnesium sulphate is routinely used for the treating the convulsions of eclampsia (locking the barn door after the horse is stolen) it cannot be a problem during pregnancy.

Remember that most of the weight of the magnesium glycinate molecule is NOT magnesium, you are getting very little magnesium with the doses you are taking. Your healthfood store or pharmacist can calculate the actual elemental magnesium for you.

Let us know how you do.

Walt
