Doctor Phobic (sort of long)

Posted by Kathy S on February 22, 1999 at 12:18:46:

Dr. Stoll, I recently asked you about PVCs and you recommended SR and i.v. magnesium. So far I've only found one chelating doc (I live in the Fla. panhandle) but he only comes to town once a week. I'll keep looking, though I've become a bit phobic where doctors are concerned. I went through several months of visits concerning my heart palpitations. First my g.p. who said it was anxiety and gave me THREE prescriptions. Well, I tossed them. I don't like medications in general. Next I saw a cardiologist who gave me a technical explanation of the heart's electrical system, said something was out of whack with mine and gave me beta blockers. Well, I bit the bullet and tried 'em and, sure enough, the made me feel LOUSY. By this time I was awfully anxious (even more than usual!) and having problems sleeping. So, I went back to the g.p. who gave me 2 anti-depressants! One for night and one for day. Being desperate, I took them; and felt even worse than I did on the beta blockers!! Finally another cardiologist visit (a different one) and she found mitral valve prolapse, recommended staying hydrated, stress reduction, avoiding certain medications, caffeine. She didn't recommend prescriptions because of side effects. On my own, I decided to take magnesium and several other vitamin supplements, which have helped a LOT! I still have occasional PVCs, though, as I mentioned. I found your website and I've started S.R. which I know I'm in desperate need of! And I like it, too! As for the magnesium I.V., do conventional allopathic docs do this? I don't know how the roaming chelator-doc can help me if he's only in town one day a week! Since I'm now so scared of doctors, prescriptions, etc., I just wonder how to find one I can trust. Hope I wasn't too boring, and Thank You!

Dear Kathy,

"Is it paranoia if someone really IS out to get you?"

I think your "phobia" has sufficient basis in your experience to be classified as "reality".

I agree that the "visiting doc" can't give you enough IV magnesium to help much.

I am in the "panhandle of FL" too. There is a chelating doc in Panama City who might do this for you. Her name is Naima Abdel-Ghaney, MD. Call (850) 872-8122 & tell her that I suggested you call.

Thanks for your testimonial. It will help others to see that their present docs are not giving them all of their options.

Walt
