EDTA chelation does not work??!! Study

hello folks
Here is an article onabove. Looks like more skeptics

An alternative therapy called chelation that is touted as a treatment for heart disease does not seem to provide any benefits, according to the results of a new study.

During the 27-week study, patients on chelation therapy did not experience any greater improvement on exercise testing than patients on an inactive placebo treatment, the investigators found.

"Despite testimonials to the contrary, we were unable to confirm that this therapy improves function or quality of life," Dr. Merril L. Knudtson of the University of Calgary in Alberta, Canada, told Reuters Health.

Knudtson and his colleagues studied chelation therapy using an agent called EDTA. Infusions of EDTA remove lead, iron, copper, calcium and other metals from the body. Since calcium is often present in artery-blocking plaques, proponents of chelation therapy believe that the treatment can alleviate heart disease by removing the mineral.

"In conducting this study, we were responding to the almost daily question from our patients: Should I undergo chelation therapy?" Knudtson explained.

Based on results of the study, the answer to that question seems to be no, although the Canadian researcher cautioned that the study is not the final word on the topic.

Seventy-eight patients with ischemic heart disease--caused by reduced blood flow to the heart-- completed the study. For the first 15 weeks of the study, participants received a twice-weekly infusion of either EDTA or a placebo. Patients underwent chelation or placebo once a month for the remaining 12 weeks. All patients also took a multivitamin during the trial.

Participants were tested at the start of the study and 15 and 27 weeks later to see how long they could exercise on a treadmill before experiencing reduced blood flow to the heart. They also answered questions about their quality of life.

Both groups of patients improved on exercise testing, but the differences were not statistically significant, the researchers report in the January 23/30th issue of The Journal of the American Medical Association. And neither group was more likely than the other to experience improvements in quality of life, according to the report.

"We could detect no benefit of EDTA," Knudtson told Reuters Health.

"I have no reason to believe that it is beneficial, although many patients report that friends and neighbors are filled with testimonials to the contrary," he said.

But according to Knudtson, the results "do not definitively rule out any benefit of chelation therapy in coronary disease in some other aspect of cardiovascular functioning." He pointed out that the study did not address whether chelation therapy affects the rates of death, heart attack, heart failure and hospital admissions.

Hi Towzer..

I am not surprised at those results.

Everyone truly wants to believe that they are being helped,
so they must be acutely watching for any tiny change.
Actual testing on a treadmill seems to be more critical than
patient impressions.

Artery blockage is most often caused by plaques which adhere to scarring and by cholesterol. That is more concrete to deal with. Diet changes and exercise can reduce LDL cholesterol in the blood.

Inflammation in the arteries also needs to be treated with antibiotics instead of anti-inflammatories, but that is a fairly new approach. Infection such as chlamydia can be the silent killer when arterial blockage is present.

I agree with Ron and the study..I have yet to hear from anyone who has had sucess with chelation..However I don't agree with using antibotics to treat blockage..

Thanks, Towser.

This is much too short a time for eefinitive results. For them to report this at 27 weeks means that they could not have even used the international protocal recommended by ACAM.

It is just another example of the dysinformation campaign by the monopoly.

Ron,

I would use a herbal formula of Red Clover, Yellow Dock Root, Burdock Root, Plantain Herb, White Oak Bark and Prickly Ash Bark..I would also go on a 100% raw food diet..Exercise and using a sauna will help kill any infections..

The above will strengthen the immune system and you body will heal faster, without any side effects..

Walt,

I hope your right, but do you have any first hand knowledge of anyone being sucessful doing chelation? Are you not doing it? Is it working for you?

Hi Steve:

I know you addressed your question to Dr. Stoll, but I just wanted to say that a few years ago there was a radio announcer in Philadelphia who was saved by chelation therapy. He was an older man, somewhat heavy set, whose doctor advised him to have heart surgery. He instead chose chelation therapy. He often told the radio listeners that this was what saved him. His name was Irv Homer. I think Vince would remember him.

I had the mibi and muga tests show congestive heart failure and three blocked atrteries - one was 100% blocked. Also, was shown to have congestive heart failure. After 30 EDTA chelation treatments, I went back for a repeat stress thallium test.(same hospital, same machine, same people) This test showed only two arteries were now blocked, and neither one was 100%. I felt very much better. I had been out of breath from a few hundred feet of walking, and weak, but after chelation, I was able to bike, hike, train my dogs, and do nearly all the farm work - and can til this day - 14 years later. (140 sheep, 30 dogs)

Also, I don`t believe these treadmill tests are an accurate diagnosis method - at all. There are so many variables there in your exercise.

I have watched at least 100 people get major improvement with EDTA chelation. That`s enough for me. I could write a book, but this study is using an extremely poorly planned measurement procedure.

As for chelation - try it - you`ll like it.

Sorry Philly,

I had heard the name before, but not that he had any medical
problems.
I just put his name in the search window and there he was.

He looks to be about 70, unless that was a bad photograph...
so the treatments must have done some good.

saw Irv on TV a few weeks ago. He looks the same to me. How long ago did he have the chelation? It has been a few yrs, maybe 10.

I'm not completely convinced about chelation, but sure would consider it if I had a problem it is said to cure. I know a guy fo had it, and he swore by it for years after, but then said,he wasn't so sure if it worked. He had blocked neck arteries cleared surgically before he had it. I asked Walt, and he asked if the guy changed his lifestyle, and that the problems could have come back. I don't know, and it is a good point.

Thanks, Steve.

In my 15 years of professional experience doing chelation, I saved at least 100 patients from having bypass surgery asl well as many others with vascular conditions. I was fortunate to have had 15 years of previous experience to compare with these years.

I never saw a patient who did NOT benefit from chelation in some major way.

Aamzing how our two experiences differ. How many years were you in practice?

Walt

Hi Vince:

I used to listen to Irv at work on WWDB. He came on after Susan Bray I think. This would have been around 1994/95. That's when I heard him talk about chelation therapy and how it saved his life. He still was overweight.

Hi Ron;

I wasn't sure if you knew of him or not. He's quite vocal and stubborn. He probably is about 70 since he was old looking 10 years ago when I saw him on television (also heard him on radio).

Your welcome Walt,

You well know ( even if you don't ) that I have no " practice " experience..However I do have experience in how to respond to others who don't have as much knowledge on a subject as I do and its not by putting them down..My comment was just that, up to this time I have never read of anyone who has benefited from chelation..Now I have..I did not say it doesn't work..Its the same as SR, I don't say it doesn't work, just that its not for me..How about liver and gallbladder flushes, enemas and colonics, herbal detox's and wheat grass juice, they work for me..But what do I know, I only read this information from Dr. Walker, Dr Jenson and Dr. Morse..Aamzing how there experience differs from you..

What's that word you used to use, oh yeah, Namaste..Have you stop practicing that?
