I was just diagnosed as having a bulging disc at C5 C6 with a bone spur pointing in toward the spinal column and hitting the nerves my nuerologist suggested PT i waqnted a second opinion and went to another Dr who has since told me not to do the PT under no circumstances and is sending me to a neurosurgeon. Does anyone have any information about this condition and what should i expect in the future. and what is the best treatment PT or surgery?

Chiropractic has the best track record, by far. PT would be worth trying. Surgery is a last resort. Only if you have muscle wasting or permenant nerve damage do you rush to surgery.

I would vote for a combination of chiropractic and body work that will release the muscle and fascial system.
My neck is full of spurs and misalignments that I have been slowly working through. Surgery would probably have maimed me for life....
I wouldn't see a regular PT though.

Hey Lorie, what are your symptoms? I have to go for a MRI to check and see if I have any discs bulging or anything pinched, I have been seeing a chiropractor to adjust my neck, make sure you check them out very good before seeing one all it takes is the wrong one and they can mess you up! so get lots of refrences on who ever you choose, good luck! Don't have surgery unless you are absolutey desperate!

Hi Lorie,
I agree. Surgery as a last resort. Try the PT and chiropractic and bodywork.
I am a massage therapist. There are many stories of people having surgery -- only to find out that their problem is still there. Try the other, simple, easy and less expensive stuff first.
Best wishes,

I agree. My mom had surgery for a bulging disc at L4-5 in November and her pain has only worsened. I would do chiropractic, massage, PT.
Good luck!

Trina, my symptoms started out as my neck feels stiff i have a constant headache and while i sleep and sometimes even when i am awake my hands go numb the right one is so bad it swells up and i cant even make a fist with it. they hurt so bad they wake me up so i dont sleep well.
the most problematic symptom by far is it feels like someone has grabbed my spinal column and is squeezing it it makes it hard to breathe. when i told the new Dr. that, he told me under no circumstances was i to do PT.

My mom did chiropractic and massage and the md's couldn't believe that after 8 weeks, of her going 2x a week, the bulging was GONE. They said it looked like a different person's xray!
