Doc Dave,
Just wanted to update you on my visit to the chiropractor. She was VERY thorough; wanted to know about my practice of SR, my exercise routine and my eating habits. She studied how I sit, how I stand, and even how I walk. She took x-rays on Wednesday, and then had me come back in today to go over everything with me. When I saw the x-rays, I was shocked! I'm not a doctor or nurse, but even I could see that many things were terribly out of whack. My left pelvis (the trouble started in my left hip two weeks ago, and that is what had been injured in the accident back in 1994) is rotated inward. When I asked her why the orthopedic surgeon didn't pick up on that as being a problem, well, the answer came to me even before she told me. He would only be looking for a fracture or dislocation. My left pelvis is also noticeably higher than the right. The mild scoliosis was more obvious than I realized. And on and on. My whole lower back/pelvic area looks distorted.
Anyway, she's also a licensed physical therapist, so she is doing my PT (which, thank God, my insurance covers). After the work she did on my back today, I can't say all my pain is gone, but she said that I probably would hurt tonight because she did alot of work on me. But she said she will be doing things gradually to get me back in line (as much as she can, considering the scoliosis). She also said that she needs to work on my feet (never heard that one before, but I guess it makes sense), and mentioned orthotics. She also said to drink LOTS of spring or filtered water because if I don't get enough, it makes the bracing worse (thought that made alot of sense too).
I thank you and Walt for encouraging me to get to a chiropractor. I really feel like things are on the right track now, and that if I continue this for life (which I plan to), I will have minimal problems with my back in the future. And, I do plan to continue with the SR of course, because of the obvious bracing problem.
I'll keep you updated on my progress.
Sara
