Disc Dessication?

Posted by John on June 05, 2001 at 22:32:36:

Hello.

I had an MRI back in March 2001, which revealed I have disc dessication in the C4-5 region, as well as a bone spur in the C5-6 area. My dilemna is that the neurologist told me I could try PT as my only option. Symptoms came on all of a sudden in Nov. 2000, where my hands were almost useless. Tried the chiro for temporary relief, it helped some. Right before the neuro appointment and MRI, the pain subsided a little, and very little feeling came back, so I was not at my worst when I underwent the exam and test. There is some nerve compression going on here.

I still have limited feeling in my hands, it feels like someone drove an ax between my ring and middle finger, and my arms hurt from the shoulder down to the hands as well. It is hard to write and tpye, a MAJOR component of my job. This is not to mention the intense pressure and pain I have in the back of my neck. It is sooooo depressing in general, and being an sales rep. for my company and being so self-conscious of my weak and shaky arms and hands. Having a 2 year old, picking up my son brings on pain. Life is depressing right now, to say the least. I guess I could be worse off, but it is not much fun.

Please help point me in the right direction, share any experiences your can, and provide any insight.

I am planning on making more calls tomorrow to other neurologists, neurosurgeons, etc. so I can get other opinions. But I would appreciate any feed back I can get here.

As we say in sales, the best advertising is word of mouth. I value all of your advise.

Thanks in advance for your insight.

Hi John,

There ARE MANY more options than just PT for your type of problem. Unfortunately, your neurologist is only scratching the surface of possibilities.

Search the archives on spinal conditions and Bracing. You cannot underestimate the impact of stress and Bracing on your condition.

Not all chiropractors practice the same types of techniques. I have found that almost ALL spinal conditions have a connection to an underlying TMJ problem. Once this is corrected, then the other corrections have a better chance of being effective.

Where are you located in MI?

I am located in Clarkston, 30 miles north of Detroit.

BTW, called another neurologist today for appointment on 6-12 for another opinion. The office staff felt I had other possibilities as well.

Thank you for the advise.
