Dear Charlotte,
A CT scan is done by enhancing multiple xray pictures with a computer (CT stands for Computerized Tomography).
MRI stands for Magnetic Resonence Imaging which uses no xray at all.
Neither one of these will do anything to help this condition. They do, however greatly increase the cost of management which consists in only life support while the condition goes away by itself.
The only thing I have seen that speeds up recovery is 50 to 100 grams of vitamin C intravenously daily for a week or so. Even though this is totally safe, most physicians do not know about it because of the long-standing bias the AMA has had against any vitamins--especially C. Any physicain who dared to use this in the hospital would surely come up in front of the review board. No risk (to the patient) very inexpensive, uniformly effective------------what possible excuse for not using it?
The allopathic monopoly must go!

Dear Kate,
Anosmia is the smell thing.
Ageusia is the total loss of taste & then there are several partial taste losses (salt, sweet, sour, etc.) that have their own names.
Since nearly all losses of taste are due to loss of smell......

Dear William,
Probably none at this stage.
However, the surgery will do nothing about WHY this happened to you and that will continue to damage you.
To increase your chances of a successful surgery, you would be wise to learn as much as you can about why YOU have this problem and get busy resolving it.

If I couldn't smell, I'd go have an MRI just to be on the safe side. My "perfectly healthy" cousin that had no other symptoms than loss of smell (for about 5 years) was just diagnosed with two brain tumors (that had been growing for years - perhaps five or so). I don't want to scare you but it scared all of us. What do you think Dr. Stoll?
