Cholesterol readings

Posted by Carmen on June 19, 2000 at 16:30:20:

My husband has received his results from a blood profile and the doctor wanted to put him on cholesterol lowering medicine. Are these numbers considered dangerous? We politely refused the medication. He is diabetic (Type II).

Total Chol. 232; trigly. 101; HDL, 62; VLDL 20; LDL, 149' LDL/HDL ratio, 2.4.

Any comments will be appreciated.

I wrote mentioning that the doctor had wanted to put my husband on meds for cholesterol. He refused and told the doctor that we would try diet and exercise. He has been on a whole foods diet now for about 2 months-fairly high protein and low carb since he is diabetic. He has eaten eggs almost every day (free range), butter, milk, cheese, meat, etc. lots of vegetables and salads, almonds, and other foods. He was retested today and the doctor was amazed. His total Cholesterol went from 232 to 179, his LDL from 149 to 100, his HDL from 62 to 66 and ratio from 2.4 to 1.5 and triclycerides from 101 to 62. The interesting thing is the doctor never asked him what he was doing, just said for him to keep on doing it. Just another example of the ignorance of doctors concerning nutrition. I might add that he also has his BS completely in normal ranges with diet and exercise only. Even had the doctor recommended diet, it would have been the low fat, high carb one I am sure. Thanks, Walt, for maintaining this BB. It allows us to take more control over our own bodies. It just angers me to know how many people are killed by doctors (my own father being one of them) and yet how many people are so gullible and believe everything they say. Keep up the good work.

Thanks, Carmen.

I appreciate the support!

Just think! What would the poor docs do for an income if everyone knew this??? It does not take a medical license to teach people how to do this.

Namaste`

Walt
