I have been on a medication for reducing my cholesterol for the past two weeks, but after reading around on this board, I am wondering how safe it is to take this medication. My cholesterol level was 242. HDL was 59.3, triglicerides were 100 and blood sugar 98. Should I continue taking this medication or should I try just the whole foods diet? Where can I find out exactly what the whole foods diet include, as the doctor told me to go on a low fat diet.
Any comments or knowledge about this would be appreciated.

when someone has high cholesterol, their thryoid should also be checked because that is a common cause.

Hi, Maria.
It is easy to combine a whole foods diet with a low fat diet. Get Beth Loisele, RD's book "The Healing Power of Whole Foods" by calling her (800) 870-5378 number. Ask her how to do it.
Also, both SR and essential fatty acids (home page) will lower cholesterol within 6 months with only positive side effects. Combining them with mild, daily exercise will work even faster.
See the glossary for any unfamiliar terms.
Let us know how you do.
