Cholesteral Readings

Posted by vs on March 10, 2001 at 10:43:40:

Hi & thank you for this service! Here's my story...last august I got my cholesteral checked and my readings were 227, Tri 124, HDL 40, LDL 163, ratio 5.7, I changed my eating habits right away, I ate a bowl of Oatmeal almost everyday and stayed away from Fast food, ate more chicken and veg. high in protein, got my cholesteral rechecked after 6 months & was really excited to get the results back, but ended up getting very disappointed, here are my recent readings, Cholesteral 255, Tri 153, HDL 41, LDL 183, and ratio 6.2...I was so upset all I could do was cry! I don't understand why it went up?? I am now on medication to lower it, but after 2 weeks of being on that I started getting stomach pain & lots of muscle pain, so now my doctor switched me to a different med! What are the chances that the tests had an error in them?? I am only 31 years old! What are the chances that I could already have clogged artieries?? I've had several tests done, stress test done over a year ago, several EKG's, most recently a holter monitor and everything came back ok, could I have clogged artieries, would all the above tests indicate for sure if I had clogged artieries?? I am so confused & scared! Any help would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks so much!

the ratios. (hubby is at 12.5) Thought about putting him on a low carb diet, needs to lose 40#. But need to mainly bring down "C" level.

Where did you go to find out more about the 'hows' & ins & outs of "C"?

vs,

Are you worrying permaturely about a problem ??

I would have thought that the oatmeal would have helped
but maybe you ate a lot more fat than you thing. Because of
food sensitivities I started eating a Lot of rice with a
Little meat in it and in a few mo my cholesterol droped 35
points. I don't remember the other figures. Exercise should
help with the numbers and as to the drugs I would have tried
niacin first since it is cheaper and simpler. If it was me
I would try these things and Then get myself checked and
not worry about it so much. You are still young enough to
change things.

Check out material on Dr. Mercola's site (www.mercola.com). Be sure to read this and this. Search for heart disease, cholesterol, etc. on his site and you will find a lot about it, and maybe something will be useful to you. But make sure to spell cholesterol correctly or you won't find what you're looking for.

How's you thyroid working. I think Dr. Mercola said something about connection between hypothyroidism and cholesterol. If you have hypothyroidism, check your adrenals because hypothyroidism is often caused by adrenal deficiency.

About your tri, you can lower them by reducing carbs in your diet: www.mercola.com/1997/oct/27/heart_risk.htm.

Learn about chelation therapy. It can clear all blood vessels in your body.

Hi,

I wrote a post below that seems to be applicable here as well. If you want to read it: http://askwaltstollmd.com/wwwboard/messages/61133.html

By the way, getting so worried over your cholesterol values is doing more harm than the cholesterol itself. If the cholesterol is not oxidized, then you have virtually nothing to worry about anyway. Cholesterol is very important for many functions in the body, so it is better to have high cholesterol than low cholesterol, and there might be a very good reason your body has increased your cholesterol values. Take care

Hi, vs.

Just 20 years ago, conventional medicine would have considered both of your readings "normal". It took agitation by holistic medical practitioners to get them to even admit what they now consider the "standard of practice".

Less than 20% of people with coronary occlusions have ANY of the currently accepted precursers of the problem and THAT includes cholesterol levels. Homocysteine is a lot more important than cholesterol levels and stress-effect storage is more important as well. All this means is that there are a LOT more factors here that conventional medicine has yet to discover.

Consider that the most common time for anyone to HAVE a coronary is MONDAY MORNING. Why do you think that is? Humans can decide when to have their attack?

BESIDES THAT, no laborotory is better than 80% consistant with their cholesterol results. That means that your first result might have actually meant that your cholesterol was 20% higher than it read and your second one could have been actually 20% lower than it read. Figure it out.

SO, I think you are focusing too much on a lab number and not on the whole picture. Just a short term stress will measurably increase your cholesterol for hours.

See the archives about alternatives you have to what you are doing.

Let us know how you do.

Walt
