I am writing to let everyone who has a child that is stool witholding know that the remedy that Dr. Stoll provides to treat this issue is safe and it WORKS! Last August, I got online with this issue and tried to resolve the problem that my son had created. Dr. Stoll's advice sounded like a safe bet to me, so I discussed it with my pediatrician, who also recommended the same treatment. The entire process of both metamucil and mineral oil took 8 months. From that point I continued the mineral oil only for the next 3 months. I'm happy to say that my son, who will turn 4 in September, now goes on his own (although only every other day), without complaining of anything hurting! I'd be happy to encourage others who are dealing with this problem to stick with it and know that there's a light at the end of the tunnel.

Since this is such a simple problem to resolve, I really wonder why all docs do not tell their patients with this vexing problem how to do it? They could even prepare a simple handout with the exact instructions so they would not have to spend the time.

All it takes is a basic understanding of functional anatomy and children's psychology which ALL nedical students are taught!

This is one of the results of having a monopoly.
