Hello and I am glad I found your advice finally after he started witholding at 1 1/2, two so called "specialists" later, and many trips to the doctor, a couple of trips to the hospital because he even held in his stool with an enema, I found your web site. I had used Metamucil and Mineral oil....but NEVER together because NOONE ever told me I could do this. I mainly used MOM, but it was either too runny or didn't work. After one week of using your suggestion of mineral oil and metamucil, (I started him on both at the same time) he pooped for the first time without screaming or getting upset. He is doing so much better and I can not believe the "system"....I am studying to be an RN and eventually hope to be a NP, and definitely will have more compassion and try and help people to the best of my ability instead of the b/s that is going on.
Sorry, I could go on and on as most people could, my main question here was some suggestions on getting him to take the mineral oil, I don't force it on him, but we do go through with him not wanting to take it at all. I have tried mixing with apple juice, but that does not work well at all. I remember seeing a suggestion putting on a jelly sandwich, but he didn't want any of that. I am going to try orange juice, hoping it will mix well with that. Do you have any other suggestions? Thank you very much for your web site.

Having had a group home daycare for the last 14 1/2yrs, I've come across similar situations in the past. The nutritional supplement that we use with our kids sometimes met with opposition, too. What we do is mix it into the kids' juice or whatever, in their sippy-cups, first thing in the morning. That's what there is to drink; no options and no other choices until that glass is empty. All kids want to have a measure of control in their lives. That control comes after the glass is empty first thing in the morning. Then they receive much praise and they're free to have regular juice, water, milk... Hope this helps you and feel free to e-mail.

Another option would be to make a small smoothie -- frozen berries, a banana, some OJ, plain yogurt (1 tbsp, optional), and the oil. We do smoothies at home and add flax oil, and the oil is really not noticeable. While you're at it you could also include a probiotic powder (either buy it as powder or dump some capsules), since this can't hurt someone who has been constipated!
Good luck!

Thanks, and congratulations, P.
There is a form of emulsified MO with water and flavoring (50-50). I cannot recall the trade name of but your pharmacist would know and it is OTC. Just remember that it takes twice as much of it for the same dose of MO.
Namaste`
