stool withholding resolution

Posted by daniel watts [454.654] on February 29, 2004 at 11:15:25:

I am forwarding Dr. Stoll's article about stool withholding in children to
my pediatrician and posting the link on all relevant discussion boards
because his system works!

My son always had a slow colon, as does his father and grandfather. As
an infant we had no complaints---we had to change a poopy diaper only
once a week. Our pediatrician assured us that this was normal. But over
time, as his stools became larger and dryer, he began to withhold. By
age four he would stumble around like a little stick man rigid from the
strain of constant withholding. His peers shunned him because of his
smell.

The advice of pediatricians, other parents and literature was useless.
On occasion, we had to resort to enemas.

Finally, I found Dr. Stoll's article and intuitively felt it was the right thing
to do. After a few days, my son began to have regular, if small, bowel
movements. After six weeks, he passed his first normal stool in two
years. We are continuing on the program and are basking in the greatly
improved quality of our lives.

Thanks, Daniel.

It is too inexpensive to ever be popular or advertised on TV--so much for "the system".

The only thing I know is to do what you are doing: bypassing the system and going directly to the public.

I am hopeing that someone out there is going through what I am. My son Cade is 2 1/2 months old. We have been haveing the worst time trying to get him to have a bowel movement since he was 1 week old. We have been to the doctor numerous times, changed formulas' 4-5 times trying to figure out if that was the problem. We have tried suppositories, Apple Juice & water combo, and even Prescripitons'. The only thing is I don't like to medicate my son when he is so young. If anyone has any idea's they would be greatly appreicated.
Thanks Stickley

1-800-herbdoc has a liquid herbal formula that works well for kids. It's called intestinal formula #3.Only had to use it once, a half teaspoon, and it seemed to straighten out the problem for good.

Hi, Stickley.

What have you learned from the witholding home page article and the archives about constipation?

At this age hypersensitivity to casiene is the most common correctable cause.
