Hi Dr. Stoll,
First of all I would like to thank you for your metamucil/MO recipe for constipation. Did help me very much. I have one question. I must tell that I don't like drinking MO so much. I noticed that if I eat dried apricots in the morning followed by glass of water I can decrease my dosage of MO. I am wondering if dried apricots have laxative effect and if I should stay away from them or is that okay to use? Thank you very much. Wish you the best of health.

Thanks, Yildiz.
Glad to hear of your success. I have no experience with the apricots but, if I were you, I would listen to my body. I cannot imagine that this could hurt you in any way.

Hi Yildiz! I know that several dried fruits like figs, prunes and apricots can help constipation. The only problem with them is that they contain a lot of sugar. If that is not a problem for you, I'd say, go for it. I wish I could use dried fruit for my problem, but I have to watch the candida.
Best wishes,
Naya

Hi Yildiz,
If you have a problem with sugar, try eating 4-5 prickly pears a day, go for the green kind and not the red as they are very low in sugar but have a lot of fiber in the form of many small seeds that I just swollow. Each one has 4 grams of fiber and only 40 calories(less sugar). Eat them through the day. They really clean my bowels. I have been eating them for about a month now, every single day and haven't been constipated even after the surgery and general anesthesia (2.5 weeks ago) while another surgery last year constipated me for about 3 months. It really works for me

Hi Naya,
No, prickly pears, they grow on cactus and cherimoyas grow on trees and have totally different texture and taste. I eat both,
mreakfast usually cons of 2 prickly pears (one green and 1 red,
half cherymoya, guava and small mandarin, if one is not in season I replace it with papaya, banana or mango.

Oh, ok. I thought maybe prickly pear was the Englsih translation of chirimoya. Anyhow, in Spain, they call them chirimoyas, not cherimoyas, so excuse the spelling. It's what I'm used to.
