I've been taking Glycerol suppositories for my constipation for the last 18 months. I have great difficulty is passing anything without them. I can, but its at great discomfort (feeling of having to go all the time, and full). This all began because I simply could not fall asleep having the urge to go. The suppositories worked wonders right off the bat so I unwisely continued taking them. Its gotten to the point where I have to take them several times per day.
I have read that stimulant laxatives can damage the bowel, however osmotic laxatives are less dangerous. Heres the weird thing...I can find a dozen sites categorizing glycerol suppositories as stimulant laxatives, and a dozen as osmotic. Can anyone resolve this mystery for me?
I plan on commencing the Constipation protocol soon. Any advice given my particular "dependance" on glycerol suppositories?
Thanks.

Diet, Diet, Diet. Everyone is an INDIVIDUAL, but this is general protocol for constipation.
1)No wheat. If you can get 100% rye bread this is usually okay.
2)No white rice
3)Plenty of cooked vegies. Especially greens(spinach, chard, collards, asparagus)
4)Enough fat or oil to grease the intestines. Eat the skin when you eat chicken. Butter is good for some. Coconut oil or olive oil are the best oils.
5)No nuts for awhile(or maybe sparingly)Nuts are often hard to digest and can constipate
6)Plenty of water
7)Maybe no potatoes or bananas for awhile. These can constipate you.
8)probiotics. Primal Defense is a great product. Sounds like you should give it a try.
9)If you use any Psyllium seed, start out with 1/4 teaspoon per day with plenty of water. Although this can be good natural fiber, it can constipate some in larger quantities.

Dairy is another questionable food when there is constipation. I believe raw milk is okay for some. Cheese is usually very constipating.

Hi, Java.
Glycerol suppositories are "stimulant" because sticking ANYTHING in the rectum is a stimulant. Their actual foreign body stimulation effect is bolstered by their "osmotic effect".
The addiction to this is much milder than most other kinds of suppositories and all of the oral "laxitives".
The stool witholding protocol is your best chance for the colon to begin to learn to "go" when distension sends the signal. You must immediately listen to that signal. It is pretty much like training a dog: if you respond to the signal that the dog is beginning to do what you want, and immediately give the reward, she will learn a lot faster.
Hope this helps. Let us know how you do.
