Since then i have had absolutely no bowel movement..my colon is not pushing the stools out..i feel pressure in my rectum i feel the stools moving throughout the colon but i do not feel the contractions to push them out.i am very scared please dr stoll what can i do so that i can go on my own again. I am young i don't want this disorder in my life.Please help me..please help me. Thankyou

Hi Kim,
Dr Stoll won't answer your post for a couple of days and I don't think you'll want to wait that long. A couple of things you can try that might help :
- Rebounding gently - that always sends me rushing for the toilet pretty smartly
- Massaging your abdomen in a CLOCKWISE circular motion - you could try adding some essential oils to the massage oil, 1 drop per 10mls (2 teaspoons) oil. Good oild for constipation are black pepper, fennel, ginger, lemon, marjoram, mandarin and sage.
- I wonder whether rhythmically contracting and releasing your sphincter muscle might encourage your bowel
- Maybe you need to take the herbs again to get yourself going, then gradually come off them. Though I imagine you are scared to take them ever again!!
- See if you have a specialist in colon cleansing in your area - actually, try this first - and ring them for some emergency advice.
Good luck,
Deb.

hi Kim.
You have done what so many end up falling into. you got hooked on pysllium-based colon cleansers. You didn't mean to but you did. Your body is now depending on it like it would a person who continues to take laxatives. Here is what you need to do to treat it:
1)Immediately start SR. This will help your stress response and treat your chronic bracing. Increased stress STOPS the bowels. See the archives in SR and bracing.
2) You could go for a few colonic irrigations but only get a series of 3 or 4. The same thing can happen here. colonic irrigations restore the contractions in your colon. Also, you may have an impaction and will need to get things moving.
3) At the same time as the first 2, increase your fiber from fruits, vegetbales and whole grains 10 fold!!!!!
4) If you feel increases in bloating, gas, rumbling or any other digestive disturbances, this is from the food sitting in your GI tract which you are fermenting. Once you get your bowels moving again, this will stop.
5) Also, search the archives for info on constipation, impactions.
You will be ok. This sort of thing happens. How long has it been since you have gone?
Also, I want you to sit on the bowl at timely intervals even if you can't go. Don't strain. just get your body used to being in the position you need to in order to go. Eventually, with the help of the above suggestions, you will have bowel movement.
You may also want to go to www.crohns.net and order a product called Primal Defense. This is a probiotic formula that eats away putrefecation away from the intestinal wall and helps you to eliminate normal. Don't wait for this product before taking action. Just add it to your regimen if you have the means. Dr. Stoll is excelent in this area and he will have more suggestions for you when he gets to answer this high on the board.

Dont try all the new fangles infomercial/QVC/HSN all this stuff is crap, and people like you are meaking the people that endorse this shit (excuse the pun) are getting rich at YOUR expense. Its ALL a gimmick. Just eat proper foods, exercise, drink plenty of water, dont drink or smoke, and you will feel terrific. Ive been following this regimen since early 20's, Im 48, still wear a bikini bathing suit, never been on any medications, and very healthy. WAKE UP!!! These remedies dont work!!!

Mix 1 tablespoon of epsom salts in 8 oz. of warm water and drink it down. Your bowels will move in a couple of hours or less. This info is for immediate relief only. Not to be used on a regular basis. Good luck.

Hi, Kim.
I think you must have noticed that I have not been recommending these kind of products even though they can deliver symptom relief for short periods. The problem is LGS and until you deal with that...
For now, consider that you have a dependency on laxatives (in these kinds of remedies) and use the metamucil and MO as described in the archives about constipation. Within a few days of reaching the right dose for you this problem will be nearly resolved. Keep it up for a month and you will be back where you were before doing this.
Let us know how you do.

Hi Rich,
As I understand it. Psyllium based laxatives are not habit forming. That's whyDr. Stoll reccomends the metamucil treatment.As I understand it, Psyllium just adds bulk fiber, same as eating alot of fruits, veggies, and whole grains. Other laxatives are habit forming because they chemically or otherwise induce colon contractions. I'd be intersted to see if Dr. Stoll agrees with me. Because I think I'm right, but I'm not 100%.

Hi, Kim.
It will take about 6 months for the SR to help. At this stage you need a laxative strong enough to have a BM. Also a stimulating suppository might help.
If you are having the symptoms you are describing, you are on the verge of an impaction and getting rid of the causes is no longer what you need to resolve this. If you get no results from the above you need to see your doc.
The SR and getting rid of the other causes are for prevention of recurrances and not for end stage conditions.

Thanks Rich-for you caring and sharing what you have seen works!Terri-Lynn Sometimes a person forgets to drink enough water also and if a person is in fear financially or has security issues then one can expierence more bowells problems; [something i have seen anyway]

I have heard the same thing about Psyllium as you Frank; I've never felt though that anyone should be on anything all the time; Dr. Stoll does know a lot about this area and has helped many; Putting the culture [acidophillus] back into the bowell is also something important;

Remember when taking psyllium one needs to drink plenty of water otherwise you get hard stools and doesn't move out, i know this one from expierence; Look in an herb book to check out the other herbs that were in your colon cleanse if you want to learn more about the product; I love all the sharing on this board-take what you like and leave the rest is my way: I value all good information;
