Dr. Stoll please

Posted by Wendy on March 11, 2001 at 09:43:32:

As you suggested, I'm going to have my daughter tested for LGS asap and I'll let you know the results. I haven't been able to get an answer about the recent wetting accidents so I asked the chiropractor and she said something about working on her reflexes. I'm not sure if that will help and it would entail having her go twice a week for several weeks.
I wish I knew what was causing this - my daughter says she doesn't get the signal to pee until it's almost too late. She told me that she will pay extra attention for now on to determine when she gets the "signal."
Her pediatrician is very concerned about this and suggested getting an MRI - she wonders if there is a problem with the nerves leading to the spine. That sounds rather radical to me - she hasn't had this problem until the past month - which is why I was wondering if the increased size of her intestines because of the bulk of the metamucil may be causing this by pressing on her bladder.
1) (please answer) Is that possible?
2) Do you think chiropractic therapy on reflex points will help? If so, how?
3a) Do you think that there could be a problem with the nerves leading to her spine?
b) Could a chiropractor help that?
c) Should she have an MRI?
4) How would you suggest helping this condition?
5) Do you know why she didn't test weak for casein and whey, when that is probably what caused the constipation? The only thing she tested weak for was the lactose.

And thank you for your answer to my last message. Don't worry, when it comes to this situation I never ever get overconfident. I'm just hopeful and pleased about the results so far. Thank you for your continued support. If there is anything else you think I should ask the chiropractor, who is the one who did the applied kinesiology test, let me know.

Hi, Wendy.

1. If you hear hoofbeats in Kentucky, do you look for zebras?
2. Certainly worth a try.
3a. If you hear hoofbeats in KY, is it even rational to look for zebras? It is POSSIBLE that there might be some escaped zebras in the area but there are already a LOT of horses in KY.
3b. yes
4. Can't hurt her. However, why waste the money?
5. Why not try the Chiropractor and just give it some time?
6. Applied Kinesiology is NOT the be all and end all of any answer. It is NOT infallible! Much depends on what the practitioner had for breakfast that morning or how well she slept the night before, etc. It can be incredibly accurate but is frequently completely wrong. It is but ONE more way to look for the truth. The lactose cannot be the problem. However, her bodymind laboratory is the only single way to prove the protein connection or not connection.

Hope this helps.

Walt

Well, it helped with the exception of the hoofbeats in Kentucky, and the zebras and horses. You lost me.
Anyway, she went to the chiropractor yesterday, who worked on her reflex points for the bladder and bowel. She did find a slight spinal misalignment which she will continue to work on. She thinks that could have been the cause. She urged us to do a stool analysis too, so that we can find out what's bugging her and fix it once and for all. I see the wisdom in this and we'll take a specimin tomorrow.
Her muscles tested stronger for dairy which is a good sign, she said. Of course, we won't reintroduce dairy for several months. My daughter is still eliminating once a day, though over the weekend it was 2 times and 3 times, quite a surprise.
So that's the update. Do feel free to respond specifically if you wish.

Wendy - I'm not sure, but I think (I HOPE) that Dr. Stoll meant that the her intestines have NOT gotten larger because of the Metamucil and therefore are pressing on her bladder. Good luck! Sounds as if you have made great progress! I hope my daughter can do as well with my granddaughter and her problem with constipation!

Thank you, Raisa. Perhaps that was the intended meaning - you have to admit it was rather confusing! It's so nice that you're helping your granddaughter with this problem - it's wonderful for your daughter to have extra support like that. I'm sure I have the oldest child on the bulletin board with this encopresis problem, and can well remember when she was your granddaughter's age and how it all started. Too bad I didn't know about this site then. (Actually, too bad I didn't even have internet!) I know your granddaughter will be fine since she is being treated so early and correctly. The best of luck, and please keep us up to date with your progress!

Wendy - Thanks. I will write to let you know how my daughter is doing. I can imagine how you feel - but never feel guilty because ll years ago, they weren't talking about the importance of fiber, etc., so how would you have known unless you had a pediatrician who was caring enough to help you solve the problem. However, we, as parents, must be very careful not to turn our children into hypochondriacs. This is another burden we have to bear. We must worry in silence and act as if everything is fine except that they have to take certain things to help them.
Again, good luck!!

Hi, Wendy.

Think about it and the "wildlife" will come to you.

If she begins to have 3 movements a day, cut back a little on the fiber. As she actually begins to resolve this problem it will take less and less to keep her at 2 movements (or even one, since she seems to be improving with only one) a day.

Congratulations.

Walt
