Unexplained Pain in Ribcage Area

Posted by EML on June 22, 2002 at 21:05:12:

I have been trying to avoid asking this question because I've been wanting this weird, intermittent 'pain' to go away, but it's increasing.

I started to feel twinges (come and go in a second) around my ribcage. I have never had this before, and I don't know what it could be. Now it's occurring steadily, especially for the past day. I will describe the exact location as being in my ribcage area, right underneath the bosom (ha ha) area. I wouldn't say it's the breast itself.

I also get them around my backside, but, again, I will describe them as being in my rib area.

Also, it's not hunger pangs, and it doesn't appear to be heartburn. It is mainly centralized in the right side, but it has also ventured toward the left side. I put up with it practically all day yesterday and all day today.

I was toying w/the idea of visiting my family doc, but would you think that she might want to order some tests to try to find out the source of it? I told my hubby about it, and he said to try not to think about it too much/ignore it.

These pains aren't excruciating, but they're THERE, nonetheless, and it's getting me down.

Any advice/responses will be appreciated. =)

Sounds like what I have dealt with for the past 3 1/2 yrs. Costo aka costochondritis. Press on the rib area and see if it feels tender. Have you lifted anything lately, anything heavy? Exercised too much maybe? Get yourself a bag of frozen peas and use as an icepack it really allevviates the pain, also try some Ahhloe Ice, this can be ordered online, very reasonably priced. They'll tell you on this board to try SR, skilled relaxation. I know 9 people with this that has been doing SR for over a yr with no luck.

Hi, EML.

Listen to Terry & Roy. With no more to go on I certainly agree that their assessment is far and away the most likely diagnosis.

Walt
