Costochondritis

Posted by Terry on September 06, 1999 at 14:43:50:

Hi Dr Stoll...I had last written in March after suffering with costo since December and writing you with 'I'M DYING"!This costo made me think I was having a heart attack, for 4 months! I had mentioned how I sat at a desk/pc for 2 years then started doing pull ups on a total gym whereas I tore rib cartilage. I am doing MUCH better, I bought your book, read it 3 times, learned a LOT..thank you.I'm here now because you had mentioned back then about SR. I recently purchased an audio tape, and before I start with it I want to make sure this is a skilled relaxation tape. It's called 'Progressive/Deep Muscle Relaxation'. I bought it off the web from Phoeinix Marital & Family Counsellors & Consultants/Phoenix Relaxation Series. Does this sound like skilled relaxation? If it is, how often and how long would you suggest I use it, and what can I expect to benefit from this? Is there a chance that the costo can reoccur? Thank you

Hi,Terry.

This tape sounds like an excellent choice for your first try. It is one of the ways to reach SR and people with costochondritis would have better luck with this approach than most others.

HOWEVER, there is NO guarantee since people are so different. If this does not check out with the biofeedback, I would fall back on my original recommendation of the "Relaxation and Stress Reduction Workbook" for you to find the next most likely one to work.

Until you have the SR working for 3-6 months, this problem could easily come back. After that, NO.

As you get results from the SR, please share your experiences with the BB participants. Others need lots of testimonials to get them off the fence and doing it.

Walt

Thank you for getting back so quickly. Where can I purchase this: Relaxation and Stress Reduction Workbook" This is just a workbook, no tapes?

No tapes, Terry, but it is not "just a workbook".

All bookstores have this book or at least can get it. All libraries either have it or can get it from their lending network.

Walt
