costochondritis

First, I'd like to thank Dr. Stoll and previous posters for sponsoring the
discussion on costochondritis. In my most desperate moments, here is
where I found the most information! I am writing to pass on my
experience. I had pain diagnosed as costochondritis that I endured for
over 2 years - and which got worse and worse. Naturally, cutting out
caffeine and getting more sleep helped, but I was definitely still seriously
ill - always with pain, waking up with pain and discomfort. I also had
constant abdominal bloating. I finally went to a traditional Chinese MD
in Chicago, whom I had seen many years before for a digstive problem.
He diagnosed lvier dysfunction. (The site http://beyondwellbeing.com/
ibs/qistag.shtml specifically describes below the rib pain associated
with Liver Qi stagnation). The Dr. prescribed herbs, which soon gave
me renewed energy and eliminated the bloating. The pain was only
midly reduced however. He also recomended accupuncture. Within 36
hours of my first accupuncture treatment, my pain was 85-90% GONE. I
was so happy and felt a renewed license on life!. I have now had 3 more
accupuncture treatments and have only slight residual pain - that do
manifest with stress and lack of sleep, but NTOHING like what I had
before. Stress is definitely a component - and is one of the key
evaluative factors of TCM (traditional Chinese medicine) - so I believe SR
could help. I think the accupuncture helps give the body a boost to
relieve from extreme stress and other imbalances, but then we have to
work to keep that balance and that is where SR, yoga, meditation and
healthier eating/living are all part of the equation.
