Costochondritis

Posted by Coreen Carter on November 16, 2000 at 01:44:51:

Dr Stoll, Ive suffered one and off with costo for 2 years now. I rarely get pain anymore unless I do something to bring it on. Tonight my husband gave me a vigorous all over body rub with lotion, especially the area below the breasts, (where the ribs are) I told him to keep rubbing there it felt good. An hour later, I am sitting here with pain in that area. Can the rubbing be why Im hurting?

Hi, Coreen.

How are you doing with your SR? Without dealing with the bracing you will ALLWAYS have this problem in your background and the least stimulus can bring it out. Remember that your costochondtritis is just a message from your bodymind of how the rest of your physiology is responding. You are lucky that your genetics chose this safe system to give you first warning rather than your heart, bones, kidneys, etc.

Of course your husband's massage brought this out. People who have a LOT of bracing frequently feel like that the day following a massage. This is a good sign of effectiveness (though bothersome). If this were repeated several times a week by the 3rd week it woudn't happen any more.
