Since a year ago I have this buzzing in my left ear, is not loud but I can her it very clear specially when is quiet during the night or early in the morning. Sometimes I feel pounding in one of my ears, can be either one, one doctor told me that could be a sign of hearing loss and I should check my hearing conditions, another doctor told me that there's nothing to do about it..
I appreciate any suggestions or recommendations regarding this buzzing problem.
Thanks
Jessie

I have tinitus in my left ear also and was told I may have a small node or swelling on my auditory nerve. It would be best to seek the consultation of a specialist who can track down the cause for you. jdf

The On-Line Medical Dictionary (linked below, and also available from the Glossary) shows the following entry for tinnitus:
-----
tinnitus
The point of the last sentence is that the sounds can be real, rather than just imagined. Remember the "sound of the sea" you hear when you hold a seashell over your ear? Turns out that if you stick a little microphone up your ear you may well be able to record that same sound coming out of your own ear. The seashell just reflects the sound back into your ear so you can hear the sound that your ear makes.
Having a DX - tinnitis does little. Next you must find out what if anything to do about it.
Hope this helps!

Zerillo and Lynch did a study on 80 patients with vertigo and tinnitus. After chiropractic adjustments 64 of the 80 were completely resolved and the remaining 16 all had a decrease in severity. The improvements in Tinnitus were termed as "dramatic".
I've had 4 patients that I can think of who presented with Tinnitus and all of them were resolved.
When you get tired of no one finding anything try a chiropractor.

Hi, Jessie.
Listen to Doc Dave, Karel, jdf and RHJ. They all have information for you. Statistically, I would do the Chiropractic first because of its success. Less than 1% of tinnitus conditions can be found to have a structural cause like jdf describes but it does occur.
Plagiocephaly and TMJ are common causes and the Chiropractor or Cranial Osteopath would help there.
Finally, if all else fails, self-hypnosis has been found to be VERY effective. The fact that you notice it less when you are busy, or there is other noise around, is a function of how effective this approach would be.
Let us know how you do and what finally solved it.
Walt

I also have buzzing in my left ear. Mentioned it to my doctor who said, without even touching or looking at my ear, that nothing can be done about it. I then had many expensive accupuncture treatments with no lasting improvement, but accupuncturist did teach me a trick that helps temporarily. When the buzzing gets particularly annoying I hold my nose and very gently blow out. I hear a soft pop in my left ear and then a few minutes of blessed quiet. Hardly a long term solution though. After reading these posts I'm going to try a few chiropractic treatments.

tinnitus, brewer's yeast and vitamin E

my father had light tinnitus, too. His doctor told him nothing can be done. I found an advice in a nutrition/health book recommending brewer's yeast AND vitamin E taken at the same time. It really stopped, but when he (my father) stopped taking the supplements, it came back. Then he took it for a long time again and it did not come back since, although he stopped taking the two supplements again.
But, as there are many possible causes for tinnitus, it may work just for some. His cause may have something to do with moderate blood glucose/blood pressure swings.
But if the cause is atherosclerosis, it would probably not work. I think Walt would recommend finding a chelating physician and do the EDTA cleansing.
Another cause can be too little ATP production in the ear, as I read somewhere, so supplementing with Coenzyme Q10 or Lipoic Acid or ATP could work, too.
Be well,
Karel
