Hi, Jan! I wanted to tell you that I had missed your post to me with the link to the amalgam website. I discovered it only while the board was down and I was roaming around looking at the last few days of posts before the board crashed. Anyway, I just wanted to thank you for your concern and for giving me that link to the long testimonial. It was very informative and gave me a lot to think about. Needless to say, I am not looking forward to the negative aspects of the whole procedure, but I suppose in the end it would be worth it should I decide to go for it. I wonder what you'll decide to do.
Would you mind keeping me posted if you do decide to do it. I'd be curious to see how it goes for you. I wonder about doing it all at once, however, and might just opt for doing a little at a time.
Thanks again,
Naya

Naya,
Do you still have the link Jan gave you about amalgams, or do you remember the date of Jan's post that contains it? I tried to find it after I read this post of yours, but was not successful.
I'm still collecting information.
Thanks,
Nutmeg

and no noticeable problems, other than being a bit more tired.
I plan on taking Modifilan to help get rid of the toxins when I'm through getting my dental work done.

Hi Nutmeg! Jan S.'s post was dated Jan. 20. Sorry, I'm a computer dummy and don't know how to post links, but it's right there.

Hi Naya, I'm glad you found that useful. I too want to keep a dialog going on this, as we learn more.
Priorities before I take the plunge are money and beefing up my immune system (=better health in general). So I'm looking at a year from now, but am researching it sooner.
I'll probably go for just a few at a time - otherwise I'll NEVER do it. 6 gold crowns and 14 amalgam fillings is a huge enough job to just keep putting it off forever if I believe I have to do it all at once.
I feel strongly that you can't be too careful with the detox aspect of it! It might be good to find a separate specialist who advises on mercury detox - especially if you are already not feeling well. I'd imagine that however good the dentist is at amalgam removal, they vary a lot as to how well they counsel people on detox before and after.
Got a couple of leads for dentists over the border in Mexico where it can be done much more cheaply - referrals by satisfied people. Naturally I would have to check out these situations very well. best wishes

Hi again, Jan. Thanks for your comments. I totally agree with all that you said. I myself have many silver fillings as well as several crowns, so it will be a big undertaking for me, too. I'd be interested in getting the names of those dentists in Mexico, whenever you have a chance. I'm in southern CA. Are they on the Western side? I know it will cost a fortune and I don't have the money right now either. And, as I said, I'm really afraid of the side effects of the procedure, and in my case, also wary of my reactions to the detoxing agents. I react negatively to almost everything. My docs and my chiro have given up trying different supplemtents and treatments on me. So...
Anyway, thanks again. It seems you, Nutmeg and I are in pretty much the same place in researching and considering this major step. I wish us all the best of luck.
Take care,
Naya

I may be doing this before you two, so I'll be sure to keep you posted. I'm a bit concerned about the detox effects, even though my doctor is right next door to the dentist I've chosen, and my doc has been through it himself so he's developed a pretty good detox protocol. The doctor suggested doing one quadrant a month, so that will spread it out some.
I'm also worried about what all the drilling and wrenching will do to my jaw. It's been pretty good lately, but TMJ problems are always lurking there, waiting for an opportunity to flare up. The cost is a big issue too. I have 9 mercury fillings and one porcelain/metal crown that has mercury inside. Some of my fillings are large and there is always the potential for cracking and additional decay once the tooth is messed with. There is also the likelihood that I'll have to have several more crowns done. I don't like the idea of grinding down what's left of those teeth, either to put on a fake top. If I'd known that that's what a crown was, I might not have allowed my former dentist to do it!
Glad to keep sharing what I find and keeping the dialog going!

Hi Naya. I am writing now to one of the people to get the name and when I get it I'll pass it your way. I notice my notes say Encinitas and this is actually in the states. As for the other person her referral will be more involved to get ahold of and I know that it was in Mexico. (I'm in CA too) best wishes

I share all of your concerns, too, Nutmeg. When are you planning to take the plunge? Jan, I've also heard there is a dentist in Encinitas. My doc and my chiro have recommended two others, one in Irvine and one in Fullerton. I don't know if those are close or convenient for you. They are pretty near me. If you like, I'd be glad to give you these two references. Do let me know.
BTW, have you both checked out Elaine Gotschall's website and book, Breaking the Vicious Cycle? The info from those sources is decidedly opposed to doing amalgam replacement. I don't remember, but one of you may have referred me to that site before. Ah, the indecision lingers on.
Best to you both,
Naya

I wanted to share an experience I had last week after one of my fillings fell out, well I cant prove that it fell out. Come to think of it, I dont think it actually fell out, just kind of resensitized the tooth. So somehow I had to prod it out of my tooth, so thats when I think some of the filling may have been extracted.
So I had had this weak spot on that same back molar for a while, and kept putting off going to the dentist. I am a coward! :(
So anyway, last week, I was munching and crunching away, oh so joyfully, until pop :), one of the popcorns (one that obviously hadnt cooked properly) lodged into my filling. Lordie Lord! The PAIN! Could have hit the ceiling when it touched the nerve. The pain sent me to another dimension of consciousness. One I dont really want to visit again! :)
So next day I am in the dentists chair. I told him I wanted the composite instead of the mercury filling. Get this?! He goes on to tell me that the composite(white) fillings are worthless, and that they dont last long, and that the one that he now had to replace in my mouth was one of the composite fillings, and thats probably why he had to replace it, as they are worthless.
Well, luckily for me, I had done my homework before getting to his office that morning. I revisited the archives, and read up as much as I could before departing for my appointment. If I hadnt have read what I did in the archives, I most likely would have listened to what the dentist said in recommending against the composite and gone ahead with another amalgam filling. I have enough amalgam fillings already.
So my dentist seems to not be up to date with his info. either.
I did notice, however, that the next few days after my filling, I became VERY fatigued and felt extremely run down, like never before. I never actually associated it with my filling until now.
Still not 100% sure on what caused it, but I know that when I look at the filled tooth that he worked on, there is some amalgam filling on the side of that same tooth which was originally there to begin with.
So I kinda wonder if maybe some of it leaked and affected me whilst under surgery. I also had to have two needles to numb the tooth, instead of one. If I had to have another needle, I would have hopped out of the chair, and told him to forget it. I hate having needles.
I am still having pain in my tooth. But its mostly when I have anything hot or cold to eat. The dentist says that if the pain doesnt go away, I will need to have a root canal. I already have one, and I REALLY dont want another if it can be helped. My brother-in-laws root canal ended up costing him $2,000. Scarey, not to mention the pain as well.
Is there anything I can do to avoid having more dental surgery done, if the pain doesnt go away????

Hi there,
If I do take the plunge, I guess I should start in February. Can you tell I'm not excited about this?! My doctor said I should do one quadrant a month, and that would get me done before summer when I will have a lot of obligations and couldn't afford to be down. I should make another doctor appt. to revisit the topic in more detail.
Thanks for the tip on Breaking the Vicious Cycle. I've heard of it, and probably visited the site, but will check it out in light of the amalgam issue.
Wishing you the best,
Nutmeg

Hi, Miss.
I wish I was a dentist, too, so I could advise you. I think you need to get an opinion from a holistic dentist. See the dental archives as to how to find one.
Let us know what you learn.
