Dr. Stoll re: many symptoms

Hello Dr. Stoll,

I am so glad I came across your website. I'm not sure what this problem would go under so I'll just spell it out. My stress/anxiety has led me to a whole boatload of problems. I have been diagnosed with GERD, IBS and Arrhythmia. I have taken a pharmacy full of medications for the first 2 and I continue taking Prevacid for the GERD, which helps since I don't really have heartburn anymore. However, another doc (2nd opinion) told me I don't have GERD and have IBS. Psychiatrist gave me a ton of SSRI's and anti-anxiety meds years back and it didn't help. I was found to have PVC's last year. 2 Holter's a month ago showed me to have between 11,500 and 12,500 a day. Echo and stress test was also done to rule out any heart disease. Cardiologist told me a few days ago not to worry about it. Problem is, I am VERY worried about it now. Also, I had this for a couple of years and felt NO symptoms. After all these tests and everything. I have been feeling palpitations for the past 5 days and they won't stop. It's as if the MD's made me feel them, which they did. I know that anxiety gets to me because I have had attacks a couple of times before having surgery done (sports injury, went fine). My temp went above 100 and the docs in the hosiptal thought I was sick but I knew it was anxiety since as soon as I got home, no high temp and never got sick. Anyway, these problems have become severely restricting in life and I need them to stop. I was looking into hypnosis as a possible "cure" and then I came onto your site. I was reading about magnesium (what kind/how much?) and other remedies you might know about. I appreciate any help. Sorry about this LONG post and typos but I am nervous. Thank you very much in advance.

In addition, let me reiterate......

I had absolutely NO symptoms of palps or anything. The MD heard them during a routine EKG during a rouine physical exam last year. Stress test confirmed it. A few months ago during another routine yearly physical, he heard a few more an dhad me do the entire work up (echo, holter etc.) Finally was sent to an arrhytmia center specialist who told me to just basically live with it because he didn't want me to get into the revolving medicine door for this (I really appreciated that since most docs want to give me pills. Only problem is how this doc rushed me out). Anyway, NOW, after all this and subconsiously TRYING to feel the palps, I am now FEELING them and a lot of them. My chest is also very tight making it tough to breathe from anxiety and worry about it. Thanks.

Hi, Steven.

Any physician trained and experienced in reading patterns would easily diagnose your problem from what you have said here. Since the solution depends upon your learning some basic stuff, I will only state the obvious here and refer you to where you can begin to understand how it all fits together. You have LGS (Leaky Gut Syndrome) and low intracellular magnesium. Your solution is to practice serious wellness for a year & to replace your magnesium deficit.

See the glossary, home page articles and the archives till you begin to have questions or just want to let us know what you have learned.

Then, as you get well, sharing your experience with the BB participants will help others avoid the unnecessary agony you have been going through.

Walt

I posted this same question above but with more info. I bought magnesium glycinate 400 mg. I was planning on having it once a day since my mutli vit has 100mg in it, my protein shake also has 100mg, my calcium supplement also has mag. in it too. I was wondering if I should take the magnesium at night (with dinner) since I take all the other magnesium with breakfast? I don't want to overload it all at once.

Also, right now, my main problem is the irregular heartbeat and subsequent chest achyness and palpitations. I never felt them before and all these tests and cardiac terms have made me try to feel them to the point that I am now feeling them. I had all the tests done so they are benign, according to the cardiologists.

But I am pretty sure all of this comes from stress and anxiety. I am a very emotional person, quick to get upset or hurt and very short tempered these days. Psychological meds did not help me at all. Plus, the 50 different meds they put me on for the stomach problems has made me wary of any more meds. When I go to new MD's and show them what I have taken, they are all in awe.

Any tips for the palpatations. I am going to start the magnesium today but want to know when to take it. I know people say to take ti twice but with all the other magnesium in my supplements, I'll be going over a decent amount over 1000 mg and that just doesn't feel safe. Also, would a magnesium deficiency have shown up in my blood test? My blood work a couple of months ago was perfect. I used to have high tryglicerides but they are all perfect now. Thank you again.

Steven,

It is pretty hard to overdose on magnesium--ESPECIALLY if one is low enough in it to cause symptoms.

Two grams of elemental magnesium twice a day is a good dose to do a therapeutic trial. See the magnesium archives for how to calculate that.

Your current dosages are less than 1/10 of that. For example, your 400 milligrams of magnesium glycinate is mostly glycinate. Use the atomic wieghts to figure out how much elemental is in any product you take.

Let us know what you learn and how you do.

Walt
