I beg you to buy the book Biobalancing by Rudolf Wiley!!!!!!!
Wiley has spent his life researching the acid/alkaline connection in diet. His findings led him to the conclusion that in order for us to operate efficiently we must be pH balanced at the cellular level. And what controls our pH levels is the food we eat. For example, I found out I was highly alkaline and now I have a diet of acids only to balance my pH (if you were acid you would eat alkalines).
Wiley is a biophysicist and theorized that most mental illness is caused from cells lacking the proper pH and thus unable to efficiently carry nutrients throughout the body and nervous system, including the brain. He went on to devise a diet plan and conducted research for 20 years with a 90% success rate!
I have had my problems since I was 13 (now 36) and I've tried EVERYTHING to no avail. I read the book just over a week ago and started the diet plan (very strict and I stuck to it to the letter for my own test) and I can say that I'm well on my way to recovery. Although I still have a ways to go (most people feel tremendous results within a week, but it takes up to 3 months for complete recovery) I'm beginning to feel like I did when I was a kid, before the anxiety/depression thing started! By the way, the onset of puberty is one of the "milemarkers" for when a person's acid/alkaline profile can change, hence that's why I suddenly developed my problems at 13.
Anyway, please take a look at this book and give it a try if nothing has worked. I am astounded that this is not considered a major work in nutrition. Wiley is a little arrogant when he talks about his diet and findings. But now I can see why. He certainly hit the jackpot on this one! Some day he will be recognized because this is a monumental work in the field of nutrition and it's connection to the mind and body!!!!!!!!!
By the way, I have absolutely no affiliation with Mr. Wiley or Bioalancing consulting firm. I just heard of this book about 2 weeks ago for the first time. E-mail me if you have any questions. I feel that strongly about this and I will recommend this book till the day I die!

its interesting, but where can we get proof that he has a 90 percentsuccess rate? i want to get better, but every week idiscover the best way to health, and studies of this and that, but i am interested. how could i balance my ph,if i take prevacid? and are stomach ph,and celluar ph different?

Not sure what prevacid is. But stomach pH depends on what is in your stomach at a given time of day, whereas blood pH level doesn't change and is the indicator of cellular pH. The cell carries the nutrients throughout the body and then dumps the waste into the blood.
Not sure where Wiley's research is published. But he did write an article for the International Journal of Biosocial Research. Perhaps his findings are published there. Anyway, the book is only $12.95 through Amazon.com and it is well worth your time and effort to give it a try. It's the only thing that has worked for me. Just make sure you stick to the diet to the letter (he list foods and sample menus), especially for the first week. Once you start feeling better it's easy to follow the diet.
By the way, the way to test if you are acid or alkaline is how you react to coffee. If coffee makes your symptoms worse you are acid and if you are alkaline coffee will make you temporarily feel better. Actually since I'm alkaline coffee (or tea) is used for medicinal purposes in the diet

Mack,
You say how you react to coffee determines what ph you are?
Another thing is the ph level just helpful with depression and anxiety?
Off the top of my head; I usually get no reaction from coffee ie it doesnt make me hyper or anything. But if I decide to try this I'll probably try it again and try to be more observant etc ...

I would guess that you are an acid pH. I would suspect if you were highly alkaline then introducing a highly acidic substance like coffee would "shock" your system. I had a strong reaction to coffee before I went on the biobalance diet and now I don't have as strong a reaction since my diet consist of all acids. **This is only a guess and I would advise you to get a blood pH test if you can't decide.
Having a balanced pH is helpful for just about anything. Once the cells are pH balanced they can effectively deliver the nutrients from food throughout the body and brain. So you see there are infinite possibilities since each one of us is different. I understand weight stablizes once on the program (I don't have a weight problem). Read the book and you'll get all the answers.
Some have criticized Wiley for being a biophysicist and not an MD. I for one think it's to his advantage. He went straight to the source of all life and death, the cell, and knew from his scientific background that a cell will not be able to properly function if it is not pH balanced. He points out that a farmer would never grow crops in soil that was not pH balanced.

Mack,
hmm I see ... that makes sense. I thought I would be more acidic since I dont eat many vegatables and like to eat meats and fruits mostly and carbs. Not much veggies thou.
I always wondered why I myself dont react to things like sugar or caffee when others eat them and get hyper or whatever. I dont drink coffee normally; actually I only have had it like 4 times in my life. But the times I did; it was suggested to me to drink it to stay awake and help study for a test; but it didnt do any good so thats why I remember it.
So your saying one needs to balance the ph of the cells? Not necessisarily change it to the opposite; maybe I misunderstand. True I could get the book but I'd rather ask you about it before I spend the money etc ... and well like you said your living proof that it has helped you.
thankx,
Sean

Mack, You say that coffee or tea will make you worst if you are acid and better if you are alkaline. Does this mean body wise or stomach wise. Thanks

So if you react badly to coffee you are acid? Really intersting because I can't tolerate coffee very well at all. Have actually fainted flat on the floor after drinking strong coffee one morning (caffeine? low blood sugar?) So now I try and avoid most all caffeine.

I see one of the reviewers on amazon.com that disliked the book states that the author classifies veggies as acidic? Does he really make that claim? If so, I don't believe it.

You are right. Of course, many people will get help from this approach and actually be reversing the imbalance that causes their problems. The things that I have been recommending also will help many people. No one with these problems should ever stop looking for alternatives; "There are many pathways to the top of the mountain."

The point I would like to make is that no books I know of are 100% right. Most have some truth to them, though. Only by being exposed to many books of different pursuasions will YOUR truth start taking shape.

This is not a panacea and I doubt we'll ever find something that can cure everything. 10% of Wiley's case studies had no reaction and 35% had partial recovery, while 55% had complete recovery. Fortunately for me I seem to be making a complete recovery.
I just love this approach to diet because it makes a lot of scientific sense to me.
