I have suffered from anxiety/depression off and on since childhood--as a child,I also suffered from ulcerative colitis and juvenile arthritis--a few years ago,I recieved an inheritance,--due to my anxiety(and naivete)I had it conned from me by a 'broker'I met and trusted in recovery, now the depression has returned,in force--I have no job and am in rather dire economic straights, but the depression makes it difficult to respond--I have taken prescribed medication before, which at best, did not help. Are there any holistic approaches/techniques that I can employ which may give good results?I am only 43.

Awhile back we were discussing potentially good books on nutrition and with a little urging I purchased Balch & Balch's "Prescription for Nutritional Healing" -- and I was just reading about Acidosis and Alkalosis.
They suggest using litmus to determine if your body fluids are either too acidic or too alkaline. Do the test before eating or at least one hour after, testing saliva and/or urine.
It's very interesting stuff they've written They include a chart on Acid- and Alkaline-Forming Foods. Fresh vegetables/raw vegetables seem to fall under the heading of Alkaline-Forming foods although some, like Asparagus, Legumes and beans are listed in the Acid-Forming Foods section.
As for you, Stephen Loy, you are my age and it's not too late to benefit from the information you can read on Walt's 'site here. Let me know if you need any help navagating the 'site. The wellness suggestions here are free and only require your well-thought efforts. Research: brain chemistry; anxiety; wellness; skilled relaxation (or SR); magnesium supplementation.
And just from me, go out in the sunshine, get a cat, play your favorite music, do something you've never done. And do your research in the archives here and you will feel more hopeful. Having no money really sucks, as I've surmised for most of my life, but do what you have to do and look at the bigger picture - it's much prettier and you'll see things you may not have seen before.
