Anxiety Problems

Posted by Alicia on September 29, 2001 at 19:56:05:

This is my 2nd time posting. I read your book and throoughly enjoyed it. I do have a question thought. Ive suffered with severe anxiety/agoraphobia for over 30 yrs.. I am doing better though, anxiety attacks are few and far between, and Im getting out more, not as much as I'd like, but a little more anyone, I'm not as housebound as I was. I was suppose to have a dinnerparty yesterday (friday). As of last Tuesday I started to get anxious about it. I had trouble eating, felt a little nauseauted during the day and after I ate. I cancelled the dinner party on Thurs. and calmed down a little. But since then, its like I have hardly any appetite, like I force myself to eat. last night I had fish and chips and felt great. Today after I ate I felt a little weird again. I've rescheduled my party for Monday. Anyway, can severe anxiety cause ones appetite to almost disappear? Before this I was eating way too much, I could stand to lose 20 lbs.. Its weird, because when I wanted to quit smoking, I couldnt stop, then all of a sudden I completely lost the taste for them and havent touched one in 18 years. Its the same thing, Ive been talking about dropping 20 lbs. and I couldnt, actually I ate more, now all of a sudden food does nothing for me. Its like I lost the taste for that. What's happening??? I'm very healthy, except for the anxiety and agoraphobia, and I also suffer with emetophobia (fear of vomiting) Ive had this since I was 12, and can you believe I havent vomited since?? I hope you can shed some light on this for me, I'd very much appreciate it. The work you do on this board is amazing and Im sure greatly appreciated. Thank you

Go to www.mercola.com and type THOUGHT-FIELD-THERAPY into the search engine. This therapy can reduce or eliminate phobias. Drugs like paxil work very well for conditions like this. But of course, I would never recommend using the drug. Instead, using a natural agent like 5-HTP or
SAM-e would be a better alternative. These help to build serotonin in your brain and make you feel "good". You feel less anxious and more open. Practicing SR will also help with the anxiety (as you know since you have Walt's Book)

Thanks, Alicia.

What did you learn from the archives about brain chemistry?

What are you doing about serious wellness?

As you get older, unless you can give your body mind it's best chance of healing, this is as good as it gets.

Yes, severe anxiety can cause you to lose weight. Generally, if you are anxious regularly on a lower level, you will choose an addiction (like over-eating) to calm your anxiety. High anxiety will often cause one to lose their appetite.

There is a really good web site, with free books, that talk about this phenomenon (among others)

Thanks, Alicia.

If you have a better source, I would be happy to use it. I am just doing my best to share what has worked for my patients for 30 years.

MY bet is that you spent VERY little time on this website and are just giving us a shot is passing. You will not even see this response.

Walt
