Chronic Pancreatitis

Posted by
Julie on September 17, 2001 at 19:08:17:

I am wondering is there any alternative methods for dealing with the pain associated with this chronic condition. I am worried about the addictiveness of the prescribed pain killers such as Vicadin, Morphine, Percadin, etc.?? Any help is much appreciated.

Thank you

Hi, Julie - Do you know what is causing your Pancreas to be so inflamed constantly? If you knew that, it would make it easier to try to correct the problem rather than just mask the symptoms with pain medications. Have you seen specialists about this and have you had an MRI or blood tests? I know this is a very painful condition. Raisa

Raisa,

Thanks,it is my boyfriend who has it. He's been battling this for four year, it is getting worse. He is scheduled for a scope in a couple week, I just wanted to know if there is something to help him with the pain till then.

I have a friend whose fibro and migrane pain is terrible. She started doing skilled relaxation twice a day. Sometimes it works better than the pain medications, or at least augments it. We both use CDs from HealthJourneys.com and DickSutphen.com

not to make it sound like I'm minimizing the pain that your boyfriend is going through, but my dog has suffered with this for a couple of years. FINALLY, after 2 years, I finally have her lipase values in the normal range, and only rarely do I feel inflamation in her abdominal region. I do not know exactly what I did that worked, but here are some of the things that I have done for her...........

Let me first say that exercise and skilled relaxation, yoga, etc. are all very helped. No, the dog didn't do yoga ;-), but I make sure she gets lots of exercise and also massages.....

First I had her tested for allergies and she had numerous food allergies. So getting her on a diet with essentially no processed foods was very important -- she now eats primarily veggies, yogurt, pork, salmon, and lamb, as she's allergic to most other things and cannot eat grains. So the first step was to get a diet that she could tolerate.

The next step was to make sure she could continue to tolerate the diet by trying to restore the digestive system. First explore the notion of perhaps parasites, and of course leaky gut syndrome. With meals, I added a digestive enzyme that was critical (we use the human product Similase), and also systemic enzymes (we use Wobenzyme). To help heal the digestive tract, I used amino acids (in the form of whey protein), with extra L-glutamine. Acupuncture was also key in her healing process, and remains to be so. Recently, Primal Defense was added VERY slowly, with noticeable results.

I don't know if these things will help others, like your boyfriend, but I posted them just in case. I do sincerely believe that the answer isn't pain killers, but something for true healing is the answer.

LT has some good suggestions. I would also add to it, a pancreatic enzyme supplement. This has been shown to do a satisfactory job of replacing the enzymes that the pancreas usually puts out. Finally, an herb called Gynnema Sylvestra has been shown to REGENERATE pancreatic cells and even normalizes insulin and blood glucose levels.

Thanks everyone for your help and suggestions. I have a diabetic Lab that I care for and I currently give her gymnema slyvestre to keep her BG controlled. I didnt know it could help with the pancreatitis, I will have to pass that on to my guy.

Hi, Julie.

BAD disease!!!

If I had it I would be using caster oil packs and detoxing the liver (see the liver archives) AND doing everything I could do about the LGS that nearly invariably precedes the pancreatitis. Since none of these things can possibly have any negative affect on what you already have, what do you have to lose? The corrosive effect of the leaking pancreatic enzymes (which cause most of the pain from this condition) will eventually destroy even your potential for healing from the above.

In the meantime, people with real pain do not become addicted to narcotics. This has been so well documented in the literature that, SURELY, your doc has told you about it.

Let us know how you do.

Reponse to you in light of Dr. stoll's recomendations........

Based on Dr. Stoll's recomendations, I would immediately find a doctor that performs intravenous Glutathione infusions. NOTHING works better for detoxing the liver and I mean NOTHING!!!!! Certain compounds can raise gluathione in the body but taking it intravenously is superior to all methods. The effect on terrible diseases such as parkinsons, LGS, toxicity, and alzheimers are being established. Dr. Steinfeld in Cedar Grover NJ does this has does Dr. Hoffman at "The Hoffman Center" in NY City.

Since you need immediate help in regards to LGS, I would also persue the use of L-glutamine in doses up to 50g per day (Do not do this unless being supervised by a competent doctor trained in nutritional therapies). This amino acid will help to heal LGS.

It is well established that taking pancreatic enzymes helps to replace the enzymes not being produced by your pancreats.

I am wondering, do you have any idea how this condition came on? I am sure Dr. Stoll said to detoxify the liver because 80% of pancreatitis is caused by excessive alcohol abuse. Most other cases are caused by gallstones, infections. Glutathione is your best weapon to detoxify the liver. Use it!!!
